A sea of pink brought members of the Coronado Woman’s Club (CWC) together at Tidelands Park last week as they gathered in front of the Rotary Club’s Coronado sign to recognize October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and honor the women and families whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.
The gathering was a simple but meaningful expression of solidarity, friendship, and the power of women supporting one another.
For some CWC members, breast cancer awareness carries deeply personal significance. The club includes women who have navigated their own breast cancer diagnoses, treatments, and recovery. Others have stood beside mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and loved ones throughout their journeys with the disease. Some have experienced the heartbreak of losing someone to breast cancer.
Bringing these women together in pink offered an opportunity to recognize survivors, remember those who are no longer with us, and acknowledge the courage of everyone facing the physical and emotional challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis.
Beyond the photograph, the occasion was also a celebration of connection. Following the gathering at Tidelands Park, members enjoyed healthy refreshments, creative crafts, and time together sharing conversation and friendship. These moments of camaraderie reflect something at the heart of the Coronado Woman’s Club: creating a welcoming community where women can find encouragement, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to make a difference.
Special appreciation goes to CWC member Tracy Real, whose vision inspired this thoughtful gathering and brought members together for such a meaningful cause.
A Tradition of Women Supporting Women
Established in 1947 by nine women, the Coronado Woman’s Club has been part of the fabric of the Coronado community for nearly 80 years. The organization brings women together through friendship, education, philanthropy, and civic involvement, guided by a mission to enhance the spirit of Coronado through service.
From supporting local nonprofit organizations and providing scholarships to hosting educational programs and social activities, CWC members share a commitment to strengthening their community while enriching one another’s lives.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Month gathering served as a reminder that community service is not only about fundraising or volunteering. Sometimes, it is simply about showing up for one another, offering encouragement, and letting someone know she is not alone.
Women interested in becoming part of this welcoming organization are encouraged to learn more and attend an upcoming gathering.
The Coronado Woman’s Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month, September through June, at 11:30 a.m. at Stake Chophouse, 1309 Orange Avenue, Coronado.
