Coronado High School’s Latino Culture Club has extended the dates of their toy drive for a very good reason: teachers are holding a competition among several of their classes to see who can get the most donations. The winning class will get a teacher-sponsored prize! Some of the teachers who have joined this competition are Mr. Ian Silverman and Mrs. Tamara O’Brien. Mrs. O’Brien came up with this idea after Alex Valle, President of the club and a student in her class, explained why the club is holding the toy drive, “Kids at Rady Children’s Hospital are sick and don’t have toys to play with while they’re at the hospital. Some are there for a very long time and need toys to take their mind off their pain and help them get through this difficult time.” Mrs. O’Brien also shared a personal story with her class about her experience at Children’s Hospital, and told her students she has fond memories of her time there. If your kids are in one of these outstanding CHS teachers’ classrooms, send them in with a toy and help their class win!
