Even though senior Adam Espe has never lived in Coronado, he has ample Coronado experience as a student. Adam’s older brother attended Coronado High School through the CoSA program. His parents wanted an equally positive experience for Adam, so in the sixth grade Adam’s parents enrolled him in Coronado Middle School.
Adam’s Coronado High School experience was challenging, but rewarding, “balancing academics, NJROTC, and social time. Being an inter-district transfer student has been difficult, but it has presented me with tons of great opportunities.” His opportunities included the ability to take (and pass) five college-level Advanced Placement (AP) courses and tests — which he credits to the amazing CHS staff — and serving as CHS’s NJROTC unit commanding officer this year.
Adam says he cannot sum up his best high school experiences into one singular moment, but all of his favorite expereinces involve being surrounded by great friends, classmates, and teachers. “All have made the experience special and worth it.”
Adam’s favorite teacher is math and science teacher, Mr. Lemei, who taught so much in the classroom academics and through the life lessons he conveys. In the couple months left of high school Adam is most looking forward to, “being able to kick back and hang out with my friends before we all part ways.” Adam says he is excited for the next chapter in his life but he feels no need to rush through what is left of high school.
Adam will be attending the United States Naval Academy. Adam chose the Naval Academy because he was looking for a school where he could get an excellent education and be able to earn a commission into the United States Marine Corps. He also chose the Academy because, “the rigors, mental and physical, are what I need to push myself further and reach that end goal of becoming a Marine Corps officer.” While at school Adam hopes to study mechanical engineering or physics. In ten years, Adam sees himself having made it through USNA, the Marine Corps’ Basic School and the School of Infantry, and hopes to be serving as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer.
One thing no one knows about Adam is that “In the future I want to go backpacking through the Himalayas, because it would be an awesome experience and I might catch a glimpse of the red pandas.”
