James and the Giant Peach

Coronado Playhouse’s Season of Award Winners In a Co-Production with Pickwick Players presents James and the Giant Peach JUNE 9-JULY 2, 2017

Coronado Playhouse and Pickwick Players have joined forces to bring James and the Giant Peach, opening Friday June 9th and running until Sunday July 2nd, 2017 at Coronado Playhouse. After the success of A Year with Frog and Toad in 2015, Coronado Playhouse and Pickwick Players are continuing their tradition by staging another great musical adaptation of a classic children’s book. The award-winning – and Oscar-nominated – musical theatre writing partnership of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, Smash! and La La Land) teamed up with the highly respected educator and playwright Timothy Allen McDonald (Willy Wonka and The Adventures of Flat Stanley) to adapt Roald Dahl’s popular and slightly surreal 1961 book.

CPH and Pickwick have assembled an all-star creative team in director Teri Ang, musical director Michael Anthony and choreographer Alisa Williams. A San Diego Junior Theatre director with wealth of experience working with student actors and theatre for young audiences, Ms. Ang was an obvious choice to direct this piece, having previously directed Little Mary Sunshine for Pickwick Players. Michael Anthony has musically directed many shows for Coronado Playhouse including last season’s smash-hit Seussical the Musical. Ms. Ang and Mr. Anthony are joined by Alisa Williams who has worked frequently for both CPH and Pickwick both on stage and as choreographer. She choreographs the production that features both adult and child actors and continues the tradition of producing theatre for young audiences.

James and the Giant Peach tells the story of James Henry Trotter who lives with his two aunts who are ghastly hags. Aunt Sponge is enormously fat with a face that looks boiled and Aunt Spiker is bony and screeching. He’s very lonely until one day something peculiar happens. At the end of the garden a peach starts to grow and grow and grow. Inside that peach are seven very unusual insects – all waiting to take James on a magical adventure of enormous proportions.

Tickets range from $20-$27 and are available through Coronado Playhouse’s Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
