2017 Coronado Historic Home Tour (May 14)

The Coronado Historical Association's 2017 Historic Home Tour: ‘Opening the Door to Our Past’ will be held on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017 from 11am to 4pm.

CHA 2017 Historic Home TourOn Mother’s Day, the Coronado Historical Association (CHA) will once again host the Coronado Historic Home Tour featuring six exquisite homes that represent life in Coronado. For many locals, this event is an annual part of their Mother’s Day celebration and a unique way to view Coronado’s historic homes. Visitors come from all over Southern California to attend this annual event.

This year the Historic Home Tour will include the 2017 GEM Award (GEM) winner; a 5,260 square foot English Arts & Crafts style home that was built in 1901 and was designed by famed architect William Sterling Hebbard. Each year the Coronado Historical Association bestows a GEM award to one home/homeowner who by Going the Extra Mile (GEM) accomplishes exceptional results to preserve a Coronado cultural resource – a historical home.

CHA’s annual Home Tour is a major fundraiser for the Coronado Historical Association and requires months of planning and preparation. The event is a part of Coronado’s Preservation Month, which celebrates the preservation of Coronado’s Heritage. The event also occurs during May when the National Trust for Historic Preservation hosts their preservation campaign called THIS PLACE MATTERS, an effort that the Coronado Historical Association will celebrate with a youth photo contest.

This year’s Historic Home Tour Team includes Beth Fleming (Chair), Katy Bell Hendrickson (CHA Board of Directors) and Mary Farley (Event Producer). These ladies began working behind the scenes early last fall with the homeowners, volunteer committee, photographers and research writers.

The Home Tour houses will be open one day — Mother’s Day — from 11am to 4pm. While admiring the architectural features and interior designs of these lovely homes, you’ll learn more about the colorful history and life in Coronado, and the purchase of annual Historic Home Tour tickets helps CHA preserve more of Coronado’s history to share with present and future generations!
