May is Preservation Month across the nation. Communities all over the country are celebrating their unique heritage. MainStreet, the Historical Association together with the City are celebrating the historic places that are meaningful in Coronado and we are fortunate to have many.

Some of the activities during the month have included a Proclamation from the City Council declaring May as Historic Preservation Month, the distribution of plaques to recent historically designated homeowners and a Historic Home tour on Mother’s Day.

On Thursday May 26, there will be a free Historic Preservation Symposium in the Lecture Hall of the Coronado Historical Association 1100 Orange Avenue. Light refreshments will be served from 5:30 – 6:00 and the Program will begin at 6:00. We are happy to announce that long-time San Diego Union-Tribune Columnist Logan Jenkins will be sharing his own Coronado story: Growing Up in Coronado – Before the Bridge. In addition, Associate Planner Tricia Olsen will be describing the City’s Historic Resource Ordinance and the process to apply for Historic Designation and Mills Act tax incentives.

Seating is limited so reservations are highly recommended at CoronadoHistory.org or call (619) 435-7242.
