Coronado-based Music Video Production this month – Local Participation Encouraged!

Greetings Coronado Residents –

There’s a very special music video being produced on Coronado on Sunday, Oct. 23rd.

The song is titled “San Diego Dogs” and is sung to Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.” The lyrics/message of the tune and the music video is to remind animal lovers to find their next dog at a local animal shelter – since you never know the amazing things your rescued dog may be capable of doing with a little love, shelter and care.

The participating organizations include the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter, the American Humane Association and the So. Cal Surfing Dogs Association. Featured participants include the very famous Ricochet, the SURFice dog – a golden retriever that helps physically-challenged youth learn to surf! Several championship surf dogs will also appear in the video. The two “human” stars and lead singers are Lia Marie Johnson and Roxy King.

The 14 year-old Lia is from right here in San Diego and has achieved a huge following on YouTube with more than 100,000 subscribers. Her music video, “White Flag” – which was also produced by Surf’s Up Studios and filmed on Coronado – is about to hit 600,000 views. Lia has just been chosen to star in a new television show!

Poway resident, 15 year-old Roxy King, is the singing star of the Surf’s Up film, “Serotonin Rising” and has just completed a pilot TV show at KPBS-TV. Roxy acts, writes, sings and plays guitar and has just released her new CD, “Arrival” on iTunes. Roxy performs live at La Costa Resort and Spa on October 30th as a preview to the free screening of the film, “Serotonin Rising.”

Both Lia and Roxy performed for Surf’s Up Studios when we produced a music video to help raise funds for Japanese Tsunami Relief at the Japanese Friendship Gardens in Balboa Park earlier this year. The San Diego Children’s Choir and San Diego Japanese Chorus were also a part of that production.

The “San Diego Dogs” single will be released on iTunes later this month and all proceeds go to local animal shelters. The music video becomes available on iTunes and youtube on 11-11-11.

For the “San Diego Dogs” Coronado production, we are looking for a local volunteer crew and cast extras to be a part of the music video. If you would like to help work on the pre-production and production of this video and/or want to appear in it, please contact Surf’s Up Studios before Friday, October 14th. No experience is necessary. All crew, participants and performers are generously donating their time, energy and talents. Drinks and food are provided.
