Coronado-based TV and film production company, Surf’s Up Studios achieved a major YouTube milestone when it’s total video viewership number reached 2,000,000 earlier this month.
“Many of our videos originate right here on Coronado and in San Diego – where our most-viewed single video, the Marine Corp Bootcamp Challenge is about to hit 600,000 views,” said Tony Perri, a Coronado resident and the executive producer and director at Surf’s Up.
Tony added, “Coronado is filled with so many talented people, students and dynamic organizations, that it’s a pleasure to present videos on their achievements to the world.”
But sometimes, it’s being in the right place at the right time. Remember the Big Bay Boom when all of San Diego’s fireworks exploded at once on July 4th, 2012? Surf’s Up Studios was at the Coronado Ferry Landing filming that fireworks show for FOX News and CNN when the unexpected explosions happened. “I was checking my focus and was zoomed all the way in on the San Diego skyline a few minutes before the show was to start,” said Perri. “And without warning, fireworks just started going off from all the barges. No one knew what was happening – but I kept rolling and got it all on tape.”
Perri immediately put the video up on YouTube and his footage not only aired on Fox and CNN but a reporter from the CBS Morning Show came down to Coronado from L.A. the next day to interview Tony for that show and aired some of the Surf’s Up footage. That video is now up to 345,000 views.
Surf’s Up Studios also produces feature films, music videos and documentaries, including the movie, Serotonin Rising which stars Deepak Chopra and the Dalai Lama, and the documentary, School of Thought featuring Academy Award-nominee David Lynch and former Beatle, Paul McCartney.
