The Surface Warrior Ball, a wonderful gala with dinner, dancing, and prizes honoring the members of our Naval Armed Forces, will take place on August 22, 2015 at the Hilton Bay Front Hotel. This elegant venue overlooks the beautiful San Diego Bay with views to Coronado. I spoke with coronado resident, LT Josh Morris, vice chairman of the Surface warrior Ball Committee, U.S. Pacific Fleet. He explained that, “the Surface Warrior Ball [is] an event that celebrates the hard work of nearly 1,000 hardworking local Navy sailors.” Certainly a worthy cause and one that hits close to home for so many of our Coronado residents! The Ball has an honorable thirty-eight year tradition in San Diego. Officers, enlisted men and women, as well as retired admirals, are all in attendance. This is the one chance for Navy personnel, of all ranks, to get dressed up, enjoy a formal dinner, and dance the night away together. Perhaps most importantly, outstanding young men and women are honored formally and have the opportunity to be inspired by various motivational speakers and presentations. It’s a way for these young men and women to understand that those at the top see what they are doing and appreciate their hard work, dedication, and courage.
The main fundraising event for the Surface Warrior Ball is the “Surface Warrior Ball Golf Classic.” This Annual Tournament is taking place on May 14, 2015. You won’t want to miss this excellent opportunity to support our hardworking members of the Pacific Fleet. All profits from the Golf Classic go toward offsetting the cost of the gala. Josh explained that “this fundraiser is a great way to raise awareness for these guys ,who are a huge part of our community.”
There are two wonderful ways that our Coronado community can support this event and in doing so, support our hardworking Navy personnel. The first way is by playing in tournament itself. The price includes at GPS cart, 2 free drink tickets for soda or beer, unlimited range balls, and a wonderful dinner and raffle afterwards. Dinner will include authentic chicken and steak fajitas with a southwestern black bean & corn salad. Traditional Spanish rice and crisp caesar salad served with fresh tortillas and authentic salsa will also be served. Prize drawings and the announcement of the winner of the tournament will be announced during the dinner. The location is at the Vineyard Golf Course in Escondido.
Vineyard Golf is located just north of beautiful Lake Hodges and borders the award-winning boutique Orfila Vineyard and Winery in the San Pasqual Valley agricultural preserve. The course’s spectacular David Rainville-designed layout, exceptional tournament facilities, and friendly service make [it] one of San Diego County’s best public golf facilities.” The Vineyard Golf Course is a short 30 minutes north of San Diego. To register for the event, simply follow the link to the Surface Warrior Ball Golf Classic. The price is discounted at $85.00 a person until March 31. Starting April 1, the cost is $90.00, and registration the “day of” is $95.00.
While this event and cause is certainly worth the drive for Coronado residents, there is another way we can support the Surface Warrior Navy Ball – by sponsoring the Golf Classic. Scott C. Handley, from the Global Leadership Program at University of San Diego (USD), one of last years’ sponsors, expressed USD’s pride in sponsoring the event: “… University of San Diego was proud and grateful to have an opportunity to sponsor such a fantastic event. Our men and women who serve our country deserve the very best and I’m happy that our program could be a part of that.”Coronado businesses and individuals have the opportunity to feel that same sense of pride. To make a donation of any size or to make a business sponsorship simply contact LT Josh Morris, Vice Chairman, Surface Warrior Ball Committee at (619) 437-2060 or email him at [email protected]
Come out and enjoy a day of sun, fun, and friendship with our Navy Surface Warriors. Play a round of golf, support a great cause, and I bet there isn’t a warrior out there that would mind if you wanted to buys them a drink at the club afterwards.
