Fifth Coronado Turkey Trot Set for November 22, 2018

Coronado Turkey Trot to Benefit the Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department at Rady Children’s Hospital.

This is the fifth year the Coronado unit of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary is putting on the Coronado Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 22, with all net proceeds going to the unique Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department at Rady Children’s Hospital. Registration is now open on www.active.com.

Nationally, 12 teens die each day as a result of self-harm, and suicide is the third leading cause of death among people age 10-24 in the U.S.

“Teens in San Diego suffer the highest rate of suicide in the state,” said Dean Dwyer, President and CEO of the Copley Foundation. “That’s simply unacceptable…Often families facing mental and behavioral health disorders feel ashamed or unsupported. We have to remove the stigma surrounding these conditions in our community. Lives literally depend on it.”

Turkey Trot co-chair Kristina Quesada says, “The Turkey Trot is a fun-filled event that brings together friends and family while supporting a critical resource for Coronado and San Diego’s youth.”

The Coronado Turkey Trot is a family-friendly, timed 5K, with awards for males and females in age categories ranging from 7 and under to 80 and above. Runners, walkers and strollers (both kinds) are welcome. The race starts and ends in Tidelands Park, with runners beginning at 8:00am, and walkers at 8:15am. People are encouraged to register early at www.active.com as the race sells out every year.

“The auxiliary would like to recognize this year’s top sponsors,” says Turkey Trot co- chair Amy Wray, “who will help us reach our goal of donating $75,000 to the Copley  Psychiatric Emergency Department.” Special thanks to premier sponsors Island Living,  and the Arendsee Family, and platinum sponsors Coronado Fitness, Milberg Orthodontics, and California American Water.

Registration for the 2018 Coronado Turkey Trot is found on www.active.com. All registrants will receive a custom-designed t-shirt, and a customized medal commemorating the 5th Annual Coronado 5K Turkey Trot.
