I applaud the young Girl Scout for being involved in the community discussions and bringing forth ideas.

I think her idea is not a good one. There is already too much traffic in that area, with the Navy Gate, Sunset Park, Dog Beach and Coronado Beach. This traffic consists of people, dogs and vehicles.

On a busy day, vehicles are in line waiting to enter the Navy Base, there is a sporting match occurring in Sunset Beach, people are watering and washing their dogs at the entrance to Dog Beach.

All this is happening in the exact area that the young lady is proposing to add another layer of congestion. Sometimes I have to park half a mile away and walk for 10 minutes to only arrive at that area before heading out to Dog Beach.

I feel a much better proposal would be Tidelands Park, at the North End, amongst the tree line. That area of the Tidelands Park is rarely used, there is plenty of parking available, even when there are events occurring in the park, dogs would appreciate the trees to sniff and their owners will appreciate the shade the trees provide. Furthermore, there is easy access by sidewalk either from the parking lot or the street. There is enough room to make an extensive fenced area so dogs could actually run and play and get some exercise.

I strongly recommend the city consider Tidelands Park for an off leash dog area.

Thank you
