CHS Soccer: Ride ends for Coronado

CORONADO — The Coronado High girls soccer team had gone more than three months without a loss. Entering the Southern California Regional Division II semifinals, the Islanders had played seven games without allowing a goal.

The shutout streak fell first, then the unbeaten streak of 24 games ended yesterday against Irvine Beckman despite the efforts of junior midfielder Mallory Mitchell, whose second-half goal forced overtime.

Unable to take a lead, the top-seeded Islanders fell 3-2 in OT as Beckman’s Tawni Martino converted her second goal of the game 11 minutes into the extra session.
