Cloud Computing from the Coronado Library

By now, most everyone has heard about ‘Cloud Computing’. Wikipedia defines cloud computing as:

The delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility (like the electricity grid) over a network (typically the Internet).

I’m sitting here in the Coronado Library on their wireless network utilizing the following ‘cloud computing’ tools to run eCoronado.com as well as manage my digital business life:

  • Salesforce – lead management and contact database
  • Linkedin – social network for business contacts (feel free to ‘link in’ with me)
  • Facebook – social network that powers our Coronado Fan Page
  • Twitter – instant sharing of our Coronado news and views
  • Constant Contact – email tool to send out our weekly Coronado news updates
  • Freshbooks – accounting tool to create and track invoices
  • YouTube – hosts our eCoronado.com videos
  • Foursquare – check in to different places around the island (bridgeworthy ones too)
  • eCoronado.com CMS – content management system to manage site, members and marketing
  • Pandora – plays our favorite tunes

Of course I still use tools like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Photoshop, etc., however, more and more business is happening in the ‘cloud’.

This video (hosted on YouTube) from Salesforce gives a great overview of cloud computing related to their business:
