This past Wednesday, Coronadans joined together to honor local peacemakers at the eleventh annual Peacemaker Awards, hosted by the Coronado Human Relations Commission.
The commission was formed in 1999 in response to the Columbine tragedy. It is now a branch of Coronado SAFE and supports respect, understanding, and the peaceful resolution of conflict among youth and adults in Coronado. They annually award community members who promote peaceful communication and conflict resolution and also support a “Take My Hand, Coronado!” poster contest having to do with nonviolent themes.
Commission Chair and SAFE Special Projects Coordinator Carole Tessicini said, “The Peacemaker Awards help our community honor role models, and it’s great to see Coronado youths and adults working together. We hope to continue the awards because honoring local peacemakers celebrates civility and demonstrates how civil dialogue and behavior benefits us all.”
