Coronado- April 10th Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) is offering an innovative summer enrichment program in June 2012, for kindergartners through high school. This fee-for-service program will feature accredited teachers and ROP certified staff teaching enrichment courses from June 11th through July 6th (July 4th holiday). Proceeds will benefit local public schools.
“This has been an amazing project and we feel there is a huge benefit for our community and our wonderful teachers have stepped up to create some very fun classes. No homework, unless you are playing the guitar or violin you always wanted to learn!” noted Patty Cowan, CSF Executive Director. “We have bridge to’ classes for kindergartners, 6th and 9th graders and well as very cool classes in math, science literacy enrichment and conversational Spanish. You can learn mosaic design from Mosaicist Kirstin Green, play Tennis with Mr. Barbera or take a wonderful CoSA Dance or Musical Theatre Camp under the direction of Betzi Roe and Kim Strassburger. We just added SAT Prep for our incoming 11th and 12th graders (fall 2012) who want to take this class over the summer.”
Classes will be held on Coronado Unified School District campuses and Kathy Shady, Village 4th Grade Teacher with her Administrative Services Credential, has been hired as the Summer Enrichment Principal/Program Director. “It has been a few years since the district has offered enrichment classes so I was thrilled when CSF approached me for this position as I have held it in past years. Our exceptional teachers have stepped up with very creative classes and we look forward to welcoming our students on June 11th.”
CSF has partnered with the Coronado Recreation Center and students needing child care from 12 to 6 pm will have the option to join Camp Coronado for swimming, games, crafts and more. The Recreation Center Brochure will have details as well as on the Coronado Summer Enrichment Program website.
A Leadership Enrichment Program is also included for students who will finish 6th, 7th or 8th grade in June. Motivated students can apply to be a “teacher’s assistant” and “big buddy” in a classroom for the four weeks and will gain valuable community service hours and leadership experience. Details about this program and all summer enrichment classes can be found at www.coronadoenrichment.org. Registration runs from April 10th through May 4th.
