Teens Involved in Drunk Driving Collision


At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, our [the Coronado Police Dept’s] Communications Center received a call from a motorist reporting a possible drunk driver. An officer in the area located and attempted to stop the vehicle on Third Street when the vehicle made an abrupt turn onto E Avenue and crashed into a parked car. Several juveniles exited the car and ran from the area. After a brief foot chase, two of the teens were found nearby and transported to the hospital with injuries sustained from the collision and two additional passengers were found hiding near the area of 4th and Alameda Blvd. Those two teens were also transported to a hospital with injuries from the crash. A police officer was also injured during the incident. Several containers of beer, hard alcohol and cans of spray paint were located inside the vehicle. The 300 block of E Avenue is closed at this time due to the investigation.

Update March 3, 6:15 am: The female juvenile driver was released from the hospital and transported to San Diego County Juvenile Hall. She is being charged with DUI causing injury, DUI under the age of 21 and resisting arrest. Her passengers were released from the hospital into the custody of family members. The injured officer was also released from the hospital. The 300 block of E is open to traffic.
