I never thought I would see a rainout for an indoor basketball game, but it happened at Tuesday night’s (January 9) CHS Girls Basketball game against University City High School. Although we don’t get a lot of rain in Coronado, the roof has been leaking for years and rain will create wet spots and hazardous conditions for our student athletes all over the gym floor on both sides of the gym. The game had to be canceled at halftime which was definitely an embarrassment for CHS as the host school. It was hard to watch the University City fans and athletes react to our attempts to place trash bags, towels, and other receptacles on the gym floor to catch the leaks after they drove 30+ minutes to compete in this game. I am left wondering if this is the best we can do for our school and our student athletes. Message to CUSD Board Members and CUSD Schools Superintendent Mueller – fund a fix for this leaky roof now!
