Cornhole Classic Raises Over $7,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Yesterday, the Coronado Yacht Club hosted the first annual Coronado Cornhole Classic – it was a huge success.  The bags were soaring, the music was blasting and both the teams and spectators were enjoying the competition while raising over $7,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Pat Scott, Tom Lyons, Ryan Johnson, and Evan Cobb (all CHS 1997 alumni) proudly supported this event by playing, cheering and consuming a few “refreshments”. Photo credit:  Dave Klinker

This event was the brainchild of Andre Pierre (Island Carpets) and Dave Werth (Versa Realty Group). Both have strong ties to Coronado, enjoy a good game of cornhole and knew the community would come out to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Dave Werth shared, “I have two staff members, both with daughters suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, which in itself is rare. Initially we were thinking we would see if we could do something small, and help show our love for these families.  What was amazing, was the outpouring of generosity, and enthusiasm from the Coronado community, and how it blew up into an insanely fun, successful and exciting day! We ended up raising a little over $7200, and a huge interest in next years event.”

Andre Pierre was extremely pleased with the event, “First off, the Coronado Yacht Club did a superb job of providing the absolute perfect venue.  The grounds, staff, food and overall logistics were on point. Lou Milioti (the General Manager) went above and beyond for the tournament.  And, I also want to thank Bill Sandke for sharing a few thoughts and a blessing of sorts during the tournament.  32 teams / 64 players showed up with a competitive yet generous outlook on the day.  The participation in the raffle, strong event hat sales and purchases made at the end of the tournament really contributed to the money raised. Dave Werth and his Versa Realty team helped to ensure that flow of the day was right on.”
