As I have been reading letters from the many impressive supporters of Carrie Anne Downey, I have been asking myself what I can add that is original and new.  I will start by simply saying that Carrie Anne Downey’s background, accomplishments in her personal and professional life and track record as a political leader in Coronado resoundingly speak for themselves.  I agree with all of the praise and recognition that the many writers have heaped upon her.  At the risk of real repetition here, I will also say that I was first impressed by Carrie Anne as I watched her carry out her duty as a City Council Member. Her analysis and depth is unparalleled.

Now for a more personal story to illustrate that Carrie Anne is also a very caring, wonderful and warm person. I had the privilege of being Carrie Anne’s instructor when she first decided to try out Lawn Bowling.  She was so eager to learn and we proceeded to develop the Carrie Anne Downey bowl delivery technique, which is a method that incorporates her use of her walking cane.  Then there was a Twilight Open Bowling evening when Carrie Anne brought her husband, Elton, and I was again the instructor.  I was not surprised that Elton turned out to be a wonderful person as well as a natural athlete. But that is not all, it was my great pleasure to welcome the whole family to the Green one Sunday afternoon on a weekend when all of her children were home for a holiday.  It is not often any more that you see families playing anything together these days, so it was sheer delight to be with this family that showed so much love, affection, camaraderie, and, oh yes, competitive spirit.  I left them alone to play together and came back an hour later thinking that they would be tired of it and ready to quit.  I did not even stop at the Green because they were still at it and seemed to be having a great fun.  Over three hours went by before they finally finished playing and left the Green. Carrie Anne and Elton’s children are some of the nicest young people I have encountered in a very long time and, as a parent myself, I attribute that to the positive parenting in their upbringing.

Join me in voting for Carrie Anne Downey for Mayor and perhaps get to know the whole supportive family as I have.
