A new website, called Coronado Past, was recently launched by longtime local, Lisa Krause. It began as a Facebook group and over the years has grown to over 2,000 members.  Lisa shared, “I wanted to create a place where everyone can learn about the History of Coronado and see old historic photos of what the town has looked like for the last 129 years.”

Lisa plans to post weekly articles with historical facts about Coronado, a gallery page with albums and a contact page where visitors can ask questions.

According to Lisa, “Coronado Past began in 2009 when my friend, Joe Ditler, gave me a challenge to research and write an article about the fountain that was once in the courtyard at the Hotel del Coronado. At that time, no one knew anything about it, even what it looked like.  As I was doing my research, I discovered many historical photos of Coronado and I was posting them on my Facebook page.  Everyone wanted to see them, so I decided to create a separate page, which grew to over 2000 people.”

“Most of the people on Coronado Past grew up in Coronado between 1940 and 1980.  I realized that even people who did not grow up here at that time, have an interest in the History of Coronado.  So I decided to create a webpage, so everyone on the Internet, not just those on Facebook, could learn about the interesting history of our town.  I invite everyone to check it out.”
