Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation – Now Playing at the Village Theater

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation stars Tom Cruise in his familiar role as Ethan Hunt. Hunt is as a member of an elite team of spies for the United States government called the IMF (Impossible Mission Force.) Hunt, convinced that there is an rogue syndicate plotting world domination – without limits of a traditional nation-state.The CIA director, played by Alec Balwin, thinks Hunt is delusional and bent on bring him down.

Tom Cruise plays his role perfectly. The character is serious, slightly crazy, and wryly funny. Jeremy Renner is cast as William Brandt, Hunt’s protective yet courageous boss. Simon Pegg, plays Benji, Hunt’s hilarious side-kick. Rebecca Ferguson a Swedish actress, who plays Ilsa, keeps the audience guessing as to her real loyalties. Harlem-born, Ving Rhames, plays Luther, one of Hunt’s loyal accomplices.

The music score is worth noting. It was composed by Joe Kreamer. Kreamer had permission from the original composer of the Mission Impossible television series to modify the composition as much as he wished. Kreamer explained in an interview on PBS that he wanted to stay true to the original score, but give it it’s own personal “big” sounds without a techno-beat. The result is a spectacular soundtrack.

There is amazing action. The characters really do get into impossible situations that even the most experienced action-film affection ado will find surprising and thrilling. Movie-goer Robyn, said: “The movie was so much fun, but maybe a little violent.” It’s true; there is a lot of killing and violence, but not a drop of blood makes it to screen.
