- Adaptive Traffic Signals: The contractor, Siemens Industry, began work this week to install a “smart” traffic signal system at four intersections along Silver Strand Boulevard (Tulagi Road, Tarawa Road, Rendova Road, and Avenida de las Arenas). The new signal system will allow better progression of traffic during rush hours by modifying the amount of green time given to different traffic movements based on the number of cars waiting to be served. New modems and controllers have been installed. The new system will be activated this weekend. The final piece of the project will be the installation of magnetometers (in-pavement vehicle sensors) within the next two weeks.
- Bradley Field Shade Structure: The contractor has installed the steel frame for the shade structure over the stadium seating. Once installed, the shade will make sitting during day games more comfortable by reducing the sun’s heat and secondarily, it will protect spectators from foul balls.
- Pool News: The Aquatics Center will be closed beginning at 10 a.m. on September 22, through October 15, for water polo tournaments, as well as annual maintenance and equipment repairs. The new pool schedule for the Fall began on August 22, and runs through February 18.
Labor Day Schedule 2017: The City will observe the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 4. Public Services crews will not sweep streets on the holiday. EDCO will not perform regular residential trash collection on Labor Day. As a result, service will be delayed one day.
