School’s out in a matter of weeks! We live in a small beach community, and it’s not hard for kids to find plenty of things to do outside with friends and family during the summer: pick up soccer at Tidelands Park, a day trip to the San Diego Zoo or Seaworld, or an afternoon learning to surf or building sandcastles at the beach.
But for those looking for more structure, here are some fun and educational opportunities for your kids this summer — camps, jobs, lifeguard training, and more — all in Coronado.
Resources for All Ages

The Coronado Public Library offers books, computers, and free events that appeal to all ages. Story time, kids crafts, and teen programs are also offered throughout the week. Further details and a full schedule can be found here.
Babies and Pre-Kindergarteners
The Coronado Community Center offers Mommy & Me classes including tumbling, yoga, and even Star Wars Dance Camp. Ages vary from 12 months to five years. Churches offer summer programs for young children. Coronado Baptist offers care for babies, and Resurrection Lutheran‘s summer preschool program is another popular option. At least two churches offer Vacation Bible School week-long programs, too: Graham Memorial Presbyterian’s VBS takes children entering Kindergarten through Grade Five, and St. Paul’s Methodist’s VBS begins at age three.
School-Age Children
The Coronado Schools Foundation offers Summer Enrichment courses for children in Kindergarten through 12th Grade in three one-week sessions from June 14 to July 1. More details here.
The Coronado Community Center offers multiple camp options that run for several hours either in the morning or afternoon. Some interesting themes include Girl Powered Engineering Using Lego, Junior Musical Theater, and sports camps. For those wanting to venture down the Silver Strand and across the bridge, there are many, many options available for your kids. A few that Coronado moms have recommended include the YMCA Camp Surf in Imperial Beach, Rawhide Ranch Summer Camp, San Diego Zoo Camp, and Seaworld Summer Camp.
In Balboa Park, the Science Museum Camp and San Diego Junior Theater Camp come highly recommended as well.
