Obituary: Connor Carvajal

Connor Carvajal of Coronado, CA was granted his angel wings on May 24, 2012 at the tender age of 6, following a 3 year battle with the childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Though Connor’s life was too short, he helped us understand that the quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time in which you live it. Connor’s “get up and go” attitude would motivate anyone. Connor was a true warrior and fought long and hard until the end.

Although Connor’s disease made him appear weak, he possessed the strength and determination to live life fully, despite his numerous complications. His courage inspires us to embrace each day as our “Best Day Ever.” He could spend hours building Lego creations and cuddling close to his mom, whom he loved so much. He loved going to LegoLand and watching Spongebob. He entertained us all when he would dance and sing along to the Rio soundtrack. He loved that movie! His favorite color was green; he loved his family and friends; and he loved to play.

With Connor’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him everyday, especially his winning smile and his contagious laughter, he will remain forever in our hearts. We are blessed to have been given the opportunity to create so many wonderful memories. We will cherish them always.

Connor left behind many wonderful friends and teachers, whose love and support enhanced his quality of life. There is a special place in our heart for Connor’s wonderful nurses at Rady Children’s hospital and his Oncology Doctor. Dr. Deborah Schiff’s continual dedication and loving support, allowed Connor to survive some of his toughest medical challenges. The pastors, congregation and Sunday School of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church was also a big part of Connor’s life. So many special people provided Connor with love and dignity in his life.

Connor is survived by his loving mother Linda Wagner of Coronado, and father Fred Carvajal of Downey, four brothers; Gage Cooper of Coronado, Fred Carvajal of Petaluma, Steven Carvajal of Irvine, Robert Carvajal of Irvine, and a sister Megan Carvajal of Irvine, and wonderful Godparents; Uncle Louie and Aunt Emilia Martinez of Whittier.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Mary Edwards and Bill Wagner of Hot Springs, AR and paternal grandparents Anita Carvajal and Fred Carvajal of Downey.

Viewing hours are to be held Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 5pm-9pm at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Coronado, Ca. The celebration of life and memorial service will be Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3pm at the St. Paul’s Church Coronado. A reception and butterfly release will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at Wells Fargo Bank, care of his mother, Linda Wagner Benefit Memorial Fund and/or a new toy may be brought for Rady Children’s Hospital.

Connor, even though I may not see you I know you are near.

Hear is our song I thought you might want to hear.

I Love you in the morning, I Love you in the evening, I love you all day long.

I know this was our song and I will sing it for so long.

It was so incredibly hard to let you go, but please know that I love you all day long.
