Port of San Diego Accepting Applications for Event Sponsorships for FY20

The Port of San Diego is now accepting applications for its Tidelands Activation Program (TAP) for fiscal year 2020. Through sponsorships of regional and community events and activities, this program welcomes and connects residents and visitors to the dynamic San Diego Bay and surrounding waterfront and supports the Port’s mission of providing economic vitality and community benefit through a balanced approach to the maritime industry, tourism, water and land recreation, environmental stewardship and public safety.

FY20 TAP applications are available online and will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019.

TAP-sponsored events are conducted by various civic, non-profit, business and government organizations and include a variety of community and signature events that promote one or more of the Port’s mission areas and attract the public to the waterfront.

To be eligible for FY20 sponsorships, events should take place on Port tidelands and occur between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020. For moving events such as runs or walks, at least a portion of the event must occur on Port tidelands.

For the current fiscal year, the Port of San Diego is providing $776,700 in funding and $1,148,096 in the form of waived fees in support of 66 events. The total amount of sponsorships and award amounts for FY20 will be determined during the upcoming TAP evaluation and budget approval process.

All applications received by the January 6, 2019 deadline will be evaluated in early 2019 by Port of San Diego staff. Following that process, the applications will be evaluated by the TAP Advisory Committee, whose members include regional community leaders. In the spring of 2019, the Board of Port Commissioners will review the recommended sponsorship amounts for approval. TAP-sponsored events for FY20 will begin on July 1, 2019.
