Islander Company is wrapping up one of its most successful years, having qualified for an invitation to the Navy National Championship Drill-Meet (for the first time in their 14 year history). Unfortunately, they couldn’t raise enough money to fly the team to Pensacola, but they are determined to make it next year! The Orienteering and Brain Brawl teams competed at the Area-11 Regionals, and their CyberPatriot team competed in the National Semi-Finals. The teams are very competitive; but perhaps more importantly, the cadets consistently display good sportsmanship. Here’s a quote from one of the Los Angeles area hosts:
Y’all are clearly doing something right down in Coronado. Your students had the sharpest appearance, friendliest attitude, and most respectful demeanor of all the teams. The Islanders are welcome here anytime!
Many of you have made similar comments, as you’ve seen the cadets working at a wide variety of community service events over the past several months. They will close the year with some fun events (bonfire, paint-ball, etc.) but will continue to perform Color Guard and other service duties throughout the summer. If you learn of families with high-school-age kids moving to Coronado, please advise them to sign up to join Islander Company when they register for school.
