- Silver Strand Fencing Improvements: The contractor began construction this week on the northern section of the Silver Strand Fence Replacement Project, installing 40 feet of fencing at the north end of the project area for an initial inspection. The designer and City staff approved the installation and the contractor continued excavating for the post footings and installed approximately one-third of the posts. It is anticipated that installation will be complete by mid-March. Crews are installing new round wood fence posts and working their way south toward Coronado Cays Boulevard. Agreement has yet to be reached on how to improve the southern reach of the chain link fencing, which will remain up for now.
John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green: New strict regulations from the California Public Utilities Commission is delaying the completion of the John D. Spreckels Center. This is causing delays as there are only 10 such contractors in the state. The project’s general contractor has found a certified contractor, but there is a large backlog of work due to the recent heavy rains and damage to SDG&E service equipment. Therefore, we are still waiting for the power to be installed in the building.
- Spreckels Park Restroom: The contractor is preparing the foundation on the Spreckels Park Restroom Project and will install the reinforcing steel this week with concrete to be poured next week. Work will begin soon to prepare the site for power outlets used for various park events.
- Glorietta Bay Pump Station Structural Repairs: Interior work on the Glorietta Bay Pump Station has been fully completed, including the closure of the wet well. Site restoration will begin today, February 3, with the removal of the construction site. Strand Way will be closed February 3 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those heading to Glorietta Bay Park or the Boathouse and Club Room will need to park on state Route 75. This pump station is one of the key elements of Coronado’s sewer infrastructure. It accepts all the effluent generated south of Glorietta Bay Park to the City limits, and then pumps it north to the Transbay Pump Station where it is pumped across San Diego Bay.
