CoSA Tour & Talk

CoSA-2016_17-TempFinal-AugustCoronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is hosting a “CoSA Information Tour & Talk” on November 15. All students in San Diego County with a passion for the visual, digital or performing arts are invited. CoSA, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary, is an award-winning arts school based at the nationally-ranked Coronado High School (CHS). Eighth, ninth and tenth grade students from around San Diego County with a desire to excel in the arts are eligible to apply for admission to CoSA.

“If top-notch professional training in the arts appeals to you, this is your chance to meet the working artists who comprise our faculty and to tour our state-of-the-art facilities,” says Shane Schmeichel, CoSA Director. CoSA offers students six specialty areas of study: Dance, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre & Drama, Technical Theatre (stagecraft and stage management), Visual Arts and Digital Arts, which offers a concentration in either Animation, Filmmaking, Game Design and Graphic Design. Students apply to one of these six conservatories by February 3, 2017, and participate in a fun Audition/Interview day in early March, 2017. Applications are online at www.cosasandiego.com.

“Our typical freshman class consists of 60-70 students, about half of whom are from San Diego County school districts.  All students are integrated into Coronado High School for their core academics and take credit-bearing CoSA classes, typically 6, 7, and 8th periods until about 4:30 each day,” says Schmeichel.

The “Tour & Talk” on November 15 begins promptly at 4:00 in the Black Box theatre at CHS, 650 D Avenue, Coronado.  Students and their parents will take a tour of CoSA classrooms, including computer labs, dance studios, band room, electronic music lab, broadcast studio, art studio and more. Participants will also see the 570-seat main stage theatre, the Black Box and other areas of the beautiful, art-filled CHS campus. After the tour, students and parents return to the Black Box where they will hear an informative presentation about the application and admission process, meet faculty, other CoSA students and parents and the Coronado Arts Education Foundation board members.

CoSA graduates have been accepted to the nation’s most prestigious universities including M.I.T, Harvard, Berklee School of Music, CalArts, all the University of California campuses, and many diverse colleges across the country.
