“Grease” Opens October 28 at Coronado School of the Arts

Grease Poster2What’s more fun than a drive-in movie, sock hop and malt shop all rolled into one? The CoSA performance of Grease! The musical Grease opens at the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) on Friday, October 28, at 7 p.m. in the Coronado Performing Arts Center at 650 D Avenue. You don’t have to be a Greaser or a Pink Lady, a bachelor or a bobby soxer to enjoy this rollicking trip back to the ’50s, featuring songs that will make you want to stand up and do the hand jive!

“We are incredibly excited to kick off our 2016-2017 musical theater season with Grease,” Shane Schmeichel, Director of CoSA, says. “This is a high-energy, family-friendly rendition of one of the most popular musicals in history. The crew and performers have been working hard to create the feeling of fun and happiness associated with the nostalgia of the ’50s from hot rods to the Pink Ladies. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy one of their favorite shows and to introduce a new generation to this story and music.”

CoSA freshman Spencer Gerber portrays Kenickie, CoSA seniors Alana Schick, Nicole Sollazzo and Josh Concepcion are playing Rizzo, Sandy and Danny respectively.

This fun-for-the-whole-family event recalls music from Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley as well as the classic Olivia Newton John/John Travolta duets “You’re the One that I Want” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You.” Director Dr. Barbara Wolf says, “We hope every performance of this show is a sell-out. The actors are exceptionally talented, and so enthusiastic to perform Grease for the community that we’d love to see every single seat filled.” CoSA seniors Josh Concepcion, Nicole Sollazzo and Alana Schick are playing Danny, Sandy and Rizzo, respectively, while a talented newcomer to CoSA, freshman Spencer Gerber, portrays Kenickie.  To capture the ’50s spirit of Grease, actors were invited to Coronado’s Clayton’s Coffee Shop for a professional photo shoot by Melissa Perkins of MelissaEPhotography.
