Early Morning High Speed Chase Ends with Arrest

Early this morning Coronado Police were alerted to a driver with a gun headed into town on the bridge.

This morning at 5:30 a.m., an officer was flagged down near the toll plaza by a motorist advising that the driver of a BMW had pointed a hand gun at him. The reporting party pointed out the BMW as it drove through the toll lanes. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle near the 500 block of 5th Street. The vehicle failed to yield, and accelerated to speeds over 80 miles per hour down southbound Orange Avenue where it then sideswiped another motorist in the 1100 block of Orange. The BMW continued southbound to Silver Strand Highway at speeds over 100 miles per hour, when the vehicle’s front tire went flat. The driver ultimately pulled over just south of Cays Blvd. Filiberto Cervantes, (12/03/1989), was taken into custody without further incident. Officers found an airsoft replica handgun and brass knuckles in Cervantes’ possession. He was charged with Felony Evading, Threaten with a Replica Firearm and Hit and Run. He was transported to San Diego Central Jail. The victim of the hit and run was not injured in the incident.1995-POLICEPICTURE1
