More than 6 million veterans and their families receive essential support from the Department of Veterans Affairs, including medical care, education programs, and pensions to support them and their families.
On June 6, the 81st anniversary of D-Day, military veterans and their supporters plan to rally in support of veterans’ rights on the National Mall in Washington, DC, and in state capitals across the country.
In Coronado, a group of veterans, family members, and their supporters plan to rally on the same day to defend veterans’ benefits and pay tribute to their sacrifices amidst President Donald Trump’s calls for reforms and downsizing of the VA. The rally will take place beginning at Spreckels Park in Coronado, and then they will march along Orange Avenue to 4th Street.
Organizers and supporters of the event explained how the cuts will impact them in this video:
The rally is in memory of Coronado resident John Pottridge, a twice-wounded Vietnam War veteran who passed away May 17, 2025.
