Each week, the City Manager’s Office provides an update that includes information on programs, services and issues within the City, as well as news, project updates and follow-up information when necessary.

- John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green: Plans are underway for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the John D. Spreckels Center and Bowling Green on Thursday, December 8. The ceremony is set for 3 p.m. at the site, 1019 Seventh St. The City is working to ensure the facility is in shape for the event. All of the window frames have been installed and glass installation continues. The floors have been prepped for the flooring material and the cabinets have arrived and are being installed. The kitchen equipment arrived and has begun installation. Site work includes installation of west planter walls, emergency generator connection, fire line, curb, gutter and sidewalk, and patio base. The local and state Freemasons held a traditional cornerstone ceremony earlier this week for the site.
- Little Free Libraries: City staff is currently working with the Friends of Library to install Little Free Libraries at several locations around the City. Little Free Libraries are approximately 2-by-2-foot small models of a one-room library or schoolhouse sitting atop a wooden post. They serve as a depository and exchange for free books to be provided to the general public for their leisure reading. It is anticipated that the construction and finishing of the Little Free Libraries will be done as Eagle Scout projects. Little Free Libraries will be placed at the following locations:
- First Street adjacent to the Ferry Landing;
- Coronado Cays at South Cays Park across from the Fire Station;
- Near the entrance to the Community Center; and
- On R.H. Dana Place near the Paseo del Mar to the Hotel del Coronado.
- Ambulance Cracks: One of the City’s ambulances has suffered serious cracking in the structure frame of the vehicle between the cab and the ambulance box. The damage was serious enough to remove the ambulance from service. Ford Motor Co. has offered to enter into settlement discussions with the City. The first conference is set to occur in the next several weeks. The City hopes to work out a deal to replace the structure and get the ambulance back in service.
