This past weekend, 30 students from Linda Kullmann’s Advanced Performing Arts class of Coronado Middle School traveled to Fullerton College to compete in the three-day National Musical Theatre Competition. This was their sixth year competing and their most exciting, yet! The list of their achievements includes the following:
- Musical Review: 2nd place!
- Advanced Level Musical Ensemble Category: 3rd place for Seussical
- Costume Design: 1st place (Nina Chestnut) and 2nd place (Rachel Brauer)
- Set Design: 1st place (Paige Karnas) and 3rd place (Claire Gibson)
- Outstanding Vocalist in Ensemble: (Molly Nilsen)
- Judges Choice Outstanding Male Dancer in Review: (Eric Carlson)
- Judges Choice All Around Triple Threat Award: (Christine Umali)
Students traveled from as far as Mexico, Utah, Texas, Washington, Colorado, Florida and North Carolina to compete. Most of the ensemble groups are specialized after-school arts conservatories, while CMS was again the second highest scoring public middle school class. The students spent time in workshops taught by industry professionals in the areas of technical theatre, dance, vocal music, and theatre.
Congratulations, APA!!
