FILM FORUM CORONADO: “Lightning (Inazuma)” Primary tabs

Coronado Public Library, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6 pm in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.

February 15: Lightning (Inazuma) (1952, 90 min)

Mikio Naruse’s eloquent, slow-burn rebellion against social conventions is considered his masterpiece. Hideko Takamine portrays a perky bus conductor frustrated with the tensions in her squabbling family who breaks free to make a go of it on her own. This film is in Japanese with English subtitles.
