SUMMARY:"The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later"
DESCRIPTION:History forgotten is history repeated—a lesson which underscores The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later\, CoSA’s latest drama that follows its previous productions of The Laramie Project in 2021 and 2011 and features a cast of Coronado School of the Arts and Coronado High School students. The sequel follows up with the Laramie\, Wyoming\, community after the brutal murder of gay University of Wyoming student\, Matthew Shepard\, on October 7\, 1998. \nMoises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Company traveled to Laramie after the tragedy and conducted interviews with the people of the town. These interviews became the 1999 play\, The Laramie Project. Ten years later\, the company returned to Laramie to try to understand the long-term effect of the murder and found a town wrestling with its legacy and its place in history. \n“Even though these events took place decades ago\, the subject matter has lost none of its relevance and explores a new chapter of the story of Laramie\, Wyoming\,” according to director Kim Strassburger\, of CoSA’s award-winning Musical Theatre & Drama conservatory\, “It asks the fundamental question\, ‘How does society write its own history?’” \nCoronado Performing Arts Center Main Stage Theatre located at 650 D Avenue\, is the venue for this haunting and eye-opening account with performances June 2-4 (7pm) and June 5 (2pm).Tickets can be purchased at the box office prior to performance or at www.cosafoundation.org. \nCoronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is a premier public school arts conservatory\, home to 200 scholar artists grades 9 through 12\, who attend the nationally ranked Coronado High School. CoSA provides an intense\, pre-professional arts education to students from all over San Diego in six conservatories including dance\, digital arts\, music\, musical theatre and drama\, technical theatre and visual arts. SUMMARY:Summer Festival Jazz Concert Series featuring the Rob Thorsen Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Join the Library for the 2022 Summer Festival Jazz Concerts. Sponsored by the Friends of the Coronado Library and Hotel del Coronado\, concerts will take place every other Friday from June 3 through August 26. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to each performance. \nKicking off our series is the Rob Thorsen Jazz Quartet on Friday\, June 3. The Quartet will present an afternoon concert of Jazz\, Latin and original music. Led by San Diego bassist\, composer and educator Rob Thorsen\, this concert will showcase the talents of this award winning ensemble. Rob found his true calling with the upright bass after playing guitar\, flute\, saxophone and tuba growing up. “When I began playing upright bass\, the fact that I felt the sound as much as heard it had a profound effect on me. I was hooked for life.” \nJoining him will be Alexander Anderson\, a forward-thinking pianist\, keyboardist\, composer\, and arranger with a bent toward mixing ’70s- influenced jazz and fusion with contemporary hip-hop and R&B. \n16 year old saxophonist Nick Caldwell is a multiple National Young Arts award winner on both tenor and alto saxophone. He recently played at the Monterey Jazz Festival with the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and performed in New York with bassist Russell Hall. He has been performing professionally since the age of 11. \nDrummer Tyler Kreutel graduated from the San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts in 2012 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in music at CSU Long Beach. He performs regularly with Gilbert Castellanos\, Joshua White\, Charles McPherson\, Marshall Hawkins and others. \n\nRegister at cplevents.org to receive reminder emails for this event. \n

SUMMARY:Meet the Caninedidates and Vote for Coronado's Next Canine Mayor
DESCRIPTION:PAWS of Coronado is excited to announce the 2022 Canine Mayoral election has officially kicked off! The above Caninedidates are either Coronado residents or have been adopted from PAWS of Coronado. This event started in 2010 and this year we are looking to name our seventh Paw-litician on Friday\, June 24th\, 2022. \nVoting will close on Thursday\, June 23rd at 10 pm. Each vote is $1 and goes to support the animals at PAWS of Coronado to include medical care. \nCome meet and shake the paws of these Pawliticians running on Saturday\, June 4th from 1-4 pm at the Coronado Ferry Landing. You can vote for your favorite while you are there. Also\, stop by the Coronado Tasting Room & Vom Fass\, as they will be donating 10% of all sales for the day in support of these caninedidates. \nThe winner will serve as Coronado’s Canine Mayor for a two-year maximum term (2022-2024)\, runners up will be members of the Canine City Council. All participants are welcome to join PAWS in the annual Fourth of July Parade and other PAWS activities! \nWhile the competition will be ruff\, the winner will have some BIG paws to fill! We will have to wait and see who that canine will be! \nPAWS of Coronado thanks the caninedidates\, their campaign managers\, and the community for your support!

For other upcoming CoSA events\, visit www.cosasandiego.com.
