SUMMARY:Soroptimist program on human trafficking awareness and prevention
DESCRIPTION:Children as young as eight years-old can fall victim to trafficking\, and the average age is just thirteen. Trafficking has been reported in all schools in San Diego\, and it happens in plain sight. The Center for Justice & Reconciliation at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is fighting this attack on our youth with an outreach program showcasing in San Diego middle and high schools. Students in grades six through twelve learn to recognize grooming tactics and hear about practical tools designed to protect themselves and their peers from exploitation. Coronado Soroptimist invite middle/high school students and their families\, CUSD faculty\, as well as all interested community members to attend this important information session on Monday\, Feb. 23 at 5:30 pm in the Winn Room. \nPLNU’s outreach program\, kNOwMORE\, is a drama-based and student-centered human trafficking awareness and prevention curriculum grounded in the latest sex trafficking research in San Diego and developed in collaboration with leading experts. The main vehicle for presenting this information is a film that will be shared with attendees. The film features actors portraying various at-risk situations before participating in a follow-up panel discussion. \nEbony Robinson\, kNOwMORE’s program manager and a survivor of exploitation herself\, will be the evening’s speaker. She is a leader in the field of assisting survivors of trafficking with over ten years of experience in a number of different settings\, including schools\, the juvenile justice system\, and survivor transition programs. \n \nPlease join the Soroptimists as they seek to strengthen our community’s awareness and expand understanding of the tools needed to protect local youth from the consequences of trafficking in the San Diego area. \nkNOwMORE website link \nCoronado Soroptimist

SUMMARY:Delta Beach Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join Emerald Keepers to help the Navy clear trash on Delta Beach. This stretch of beach on the bay side of Silver Strand\, just south of the Naval Amphibious Base is on Navy property. It has been designated as a critical habitat for the western snowy plover and the California least tern. The western snowy plover is listed as threatened and the California least tern is listed as endangered under the Federal Endangered Species Act. \nThis is an opportunity to see a beach normally closed to human activity and take in expansive views of the bay while cleaning up a habitat for vulnerable species and keeping trash out of the San Diego Bay to protect marine animals. \nDirections: From Coronado\, head south on state Route 75 for 2.4 miles. Make a U-turn at the Fiddlers Cove Marina and RV park (Note: There is no sign or traffic light\, but it’s the first left turn lane south of the Naval Amphibious Base). Head back north for about 1 mile and look for the Emerald Keepers flag by the north gate for Delta Beach. Drive carefully across the bike path and park on the sand inside the fence line. \n \nBring buckets\, gloves\, and pickers if you have them. See you there!

DESCRIPTION:Have something in need or repair? Bring it to the Fix-It Clinic! \n \nVolunteers will not only try to fix your item\, but they will teach you how to do it as well! It is a hands-on event where participants can learn how to repair their items with the help of our expert coaches. \nClick here for more information and to reserve your spot! \nHow many items can I bring to the event? \nPlease bring ONE ITEM that needs to be repaired\, and keep in mind we will try our best to solve the problem\, but not every case is a success. Additional items brought in will be listed as a walk-in and serviced on a case-by-case basis. \nWill you accept walk-ins? \nWe will accept walk-ins if there is time\, but it depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the registered attendees. It’s best to make a reservation for help. Click here to sign up.  \nCLOTHING SWAP OUTSIDE \nEmerald Keepers interns will have a clothing swap outside in the Library Park. Bring a piece of clothing to make a trade with a member of the community and build a more sustainable wardrobe.
