DESCRIPTION:The Coronado Valentine’s Day Run returns on Sunday\, February 16\, offering a perfect mix of love\, fitness\, and fun. Featuring a 10K\, 5K\, and 1-Mile Fun Run\, this event invites couples\, families\, and individuals to celebrate Valentine’s Day with an unforgettable experience on scenic Coronado Island. \nA key highlight of the event is the wedding vow renewal ceremony\, led by beloved Poway pastor Bobby Johnston. Scheduled for 7:15 a.m. before the race\, the ceremony offers couples a heartfelt opportunity to reaffirm their love and commitment. Known for his joyous and emotional ceremonies\, Pastor Johnston’s leadership last year brought smiles\, laughter\, and touching moments to couples who renewed their vows. \nAdding even more fun to the day is the costume contest for individuals\, couples\, and groups. Participants are encouraged to get creative with their Valentine’s Day-themed attire for a chance to win prizes and showcase their festive spirit. \nTo embrace the Valentine’s spirit\, all participants can select a relationship status bib to wear\, featuring playful messages like ‘Available\,’ ‘Taken\,’ and ‘It’s Complicated.’ This matchmaking element brings a lighthearted touch\, and in previous years\, it’s even sparked real-life love stories among runners. \nParticipants will receive a long-sleeve tiki-themed sun protection tech shirt and a large\, heart-shaped medal featuring Michelangelo’s David reimagined as Cupid\, making the day both memorable and rewarding. \nThe event supports two impactful organizations: the Islander Sports Foundation\, which encourages youth participation in sports\, and the Life Sports Foundation\, dedicated to empowering young athletes and promoting healthy lifestyles. \nThe day kicks off with the 1-Mile Fun Run\, perfect for families\, followed by the 10K and 5K races. A lively post-race celebration with music and community connections ensures a festive atmosphere for all. \nSchedule\n\n\n\n\n\n7:00 a.m. Opening Remarks\n7:15 a.m. Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony\n7:30 a.m. 1-Mile Fun Run Start\n8:00 a.m. 10K & 5K Start\nCostume Contest: Judging during post-race festivities.\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:FILM FORUM CORONADO: "Detour"
DESCRIPTION:Coronado Public Library\, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival\, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO\, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards\, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. \nFebruary 19: Detour (1945\, Not Rated\, 70 min) \nEdgar Ulmer’s pulpy\, Poverty Row masterpiece epitomizes the dark heart of film noir. A down-on-his-luck NY night club pianist (Tom Neal) hitchhikes across the country to rejoin his girlfriend\, but fate tosses him into the clutches of the acid-tongued\, snarling Vera (Ann Savage). \nFebruary 19 Bonus: Key Lime Pie (2007\, Not Rated\, 4 min) \nTrevor Jimenez’s clever and creative noir homage uses all the noirish tropes to tell a tale of food lust. A man’s obsession with this savory deliciousness brings him face-to-face with the Grim Reaper.

SUMMARY:CHA Hosts Midway Docents for Wine & Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Coronado Historical Association’s popular Wine & Lecture series continues Thursday\, February 20 at 5:30 pm with a special presentation from two USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum docents.  \nUS Navy veterans and long-time Midway docents Brian Butler and Steve Walker will present a dynamic visual journey titled The Midway Story. As the Midway comes off of its 20th-anniversary on the waterfront in 2024\, the presentation will highlight the Midway’s 47 years as an active duty US Navy ship\, as well as demonstrate how the museum earned the distinction of being one of San Diego’s pre-eminent tourist attractions. \nFirst opened in 2004\, the Midway has steadily grown its count of visitors as well as guest accolades. In 2024\, Midway welcomed its 20 millionth guest. With more than 26\,000 guest reviews\, Midway ranked #1 among 751 Things To Do in San Diego last year\, according to Trip Advisor\, a national travel assistance platform. The Museum was also ranked the fourth most popular museum of any type nationally in 2024.  \nAn even more primary reason for Midway’s acclaim is the patriotism\, skill\, and dedication of the more than 700 volunteers who donate more than 235\,000 hours annually. Within the volunteers\, the Docent team is considered the Midway’s “secret sauce” that makes the guest experience special. Many docents are US Navy veterans and their knowledge of how an aircraft carrier operates as well as their shared personal experiences are what guests say they remember and appreciate the most during their visit.  \n \nLate in 2024\, the Midway kicked off an ambitious new project – Freedom Park at Burnham Navy Pier. The 10-acre park will be located adjacent to the museum and is scheduled to open in 2028. Freedom Park will be the largest veteran-themed park on the West Coast. Butler and Walker’s presentation will also give an update on this project. \nThe Coronado Historical Association has a long history of collaborating with the USS Midway Museum. Most recently\, in 2023\, the Midway hosted a satellite installation as part of CHA’s Open Doors: Vietnam POWs Fifty Years of Freedom exhibit. CHA is excited to again partner with the Midway by hosting two of their best docents for this exciting lecture to be held in CHA’s lecture hall. More information and tickets are available at coronadohistory.org\, by stopping in at 1100 Orange\, or calling 619-435-7242.
