SUMMARY:Household Hazardous Waste Collection
DESCRIPTION:Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection is held the second and fourth Saturday of each month\, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Public Services Facility\, located at 101 B Avenue\, and is available to Coronado residents only. No business or contractor-generated waste is permitted. \nHousehold products containing toxic chemicals become hazardous waste when you decide to dispose of them. SUMMARY:Author Event with Javier Zamora
DESCRIPTION:Coronado Public Library\, in partnership with Warwick’s Bookstore\, will host Javier Zamora as he discusses and signs his new book\, Solito: A Memoir.\n\nThis event is free and first-come\, first-served. A limited number of premium-view reserved seats are available for those who pre-order a copy of the book by contacting Warwick’s via https://www.warwicks.com/event/zamora-2022 or calling the store at 858-454-0347. One reserved seat per book. \nZamora was born in El Salvador in 1990. His father fled the country when he was a year old\, and his mother when he was about to turn five. Both parents’ migrations were caused by the U.S.-funded Salvadoran Civil War. When he was nine Javier migrated through Guatemala\, Mexico\, and the Sonoran Desert. His debut poetry collection\, Unaccompanied\, explores the impact of the war and immigration on his family. Zamora has been a Stegner Fellow at Stanford and a Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard and holds fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. \nAbout the Book: \nTrip. My parents started using that word about a year ago: “one day\, you’ll take a trip to be with us. Like an adventure.” \nZamora’s adventure is a 3\,000-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador\, through Guatemala and Mexico\, and across the U.S. border. He will leave behind his beloved aunt and grandparents to reunite with a mother who left four years ago and a father he barely remembers. Traveling alone amid a group of strangers and a “coyote” hired to lead them to safety\, Zamora expects his trip to last two short weeks. \nAt nine years old\, all Zamora can imagine is rushing into his parents’ arms\, snuggling in bed between them\, and living under the same roof again. He cannot foresee the perilous boat trips\, relentless desert treks\, pointed guns\, arrests and deceptions that await him; nor can he know that those two weeks will expand into two life-altering months alongside fellow migrants who will come to encircle him like an unexpected family. \nA memoir as gripping as it is moving\, Solito provides an immediate and intimate account not only of a treacherous and near-impossible journey\, but also of the miraculous kindness and love delivered at the most unexpected moments. Solito is Zamora’s story\, but it’s also the story of millions of others who had no choice but to leave home. \n

SUMMARY:Walking Tour of Historic Coronado
DESCRIPTION:One of the best ways to experience the history of Coronado is to go on a historic walking tour. This is the secret that Coronado locals know: it takes time to sense the past. When you slow down\, you have a chance to see\, hear\, and remember this place that Hollywood stars\, princes\, and presidents have enjoyed. Everywhere you look in this charming beach town\, you find history. And\, that history is easiest to see on foot – when you have a chance to linger in front of a tiny\, shingled house\, perhaps\, and meet the resident as he comes out into the yard to water his roses and tells you about the multiple generations who have lived in the home. Or\, when you seemingly stumble upon the magical house from which the Wizard of Oz was born. \nWe’re proud to host you on Coronado’s premier walking tour. Every tour purchase supports the Coronado Historical Association and its mission. Thank you for your support. \nEvery Sunday at 11 am & Thursday at 1 pm\nLocation: Coronado Historical Association\,\n1100 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118\nAdmission: Adults $20 | Children (12 & under) $5\nBUY TICKETS HERE\nTours are approximately 90 minutes and two miles at a comfortable pace. They are appropriate for young and old alike. Only certified service animals are allowed. This is an outdoor tour. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated persons with the booster shot\, and required for those who are not. \nOnline tour sales close at 10 am the day of the tour and are nonrefundable. Private Tours are available for groups. Learn more by clicking here.

SUMMARY:FILM FORUM CORONADO: "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris"
DESCRIPTION:Coronado Public Library\, in partnership with the Coronado Island Film Festival\, presents FILM FORUM CORONADO\, taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month (*except this month\, which will be the first and fourth Wednesdays) at 6:00 p.m. in the library’s Winn Room. Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards\, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story.\n\nSeptember 28: Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022\, 115 min\, rated PG) \nLesley Manville headlines this whimsical\, effervescent frock fantasy. A plucky housekeeper (Manville) treks to the chic halls of haute couture to realize her dream of owning a Dior gown. Co-starring Isabelle Huppert and Jason Isaacs. Director Anthony Fabian based this film on the 1958 novel Mrs. ‘Arris Goes To Paris written by Paul Gallico. \n  \n\nRELATED: \n“Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”: A Fun Retro Contrasting Adventure
