DESCRIPTION:The Coronado Democratic Club will host a public forum for candidates seeking election to the Coronado Unified School District Board of Trustees on Saturday\, September 19\, at the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library. \nThe four qualified candidates are Alexia Palacios-Peters\, Mal Sandie\, Peggy Duncan\, and Kaye Schneider. All have been invited to participate in the forum. \nThe Club is pleased to announce that Bruce Shepherd\, former CUSD Trustee and longtime Coronado resident\, will serve as moderator. His experience with the Coronado Unified School District and familiarity with the community will help guide a thoughtful and informative discussion of issues important to local schools and families. \nThe forum continues an election-season tradition sponsored by the Coronado Democratic Club to help inform voters and provide candidates with an opportunity to answer questions\, discuss their priorities\, and meet members of the community. \nThe forum is free and open to the public\, and residents of all political affiliations are encouraged to attend. \nThe Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library (The Coronado Times)\nThe event will be held in the Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library\, 640 Orange Avenue. How can a person make sense of all this? \nDr. Carl Luna\, a distinguished professor of political science\, will discuss the measures that cover a wide range of topics such as housing bonds\, homebuyer loans\, healthcare funding\, rules governing local taxes\, a tax on billionaires\, limits to taxing wealth\, and other proposals. \nDr. Luna’s career includes teaching at Mesa Community College and USD\, recognition as one of the top 5 community college professors in the country in 2014\, and serving as co-chair of the Restoring Respect\, an initiative to promote civility in San Diego. He’s also president of Friends of the Coronado Public Library. \nHis presentation will take place Sunday\, September 20 at 9:05 am in Hinde Hall at Christ Episcopal Church\, on the corner of Ninth Street and C Avenue\, and is open to the public. \n
