He has performed with Bill Watrous\, Charles McPherson\, Abraham Laboriel\, Poncho Sanchez\, Spanish Harlem Orchestra\, Alex Acuna\, Akira Jimbo\, Rene Camacho\, Cuba’s “El Negro” Hernandez\, Gilbert Castellanos\, Peter Sprague. \nHis music arrangements also include a “Tribute to Frank Sinatra\,” performed by the San Diego Chamber Orchestra\, an arrangement for strings for Luis Miguel\, and an orchestral arrangement for The San Diego Symphony.

This week’s series will feature flutist and saxophonist Adrienne Nims. \n\nAdrienne Nims is a flutist and saxophonist whose passionate energy is well acclaimed. Though her early formal training focused on classical music\, she quickly developed a deep interest in jazz and world music. In addition to piano and flute\, by age 13 she was also playing the saxophone and performing professionally in big bands and classical ensembles. Adrienne’s group\, Sprit Wind\, has performed at venues such as the Getty Museum of Los Angeles\, California Center for the Arts\, the San Diego Zoo\, and major jazz festivals and classical music series. In her professional career\, Adrienne has opened for Spyro Gyra\, Kirk Whalum\, Joe Cocker\, Fourplay\, Don MacLean\, Boz Scraggs\, Steppenwolf\, and more. She is an accomplished studio musician with credits on over 50 CDs including her own\, and television soundtracks as well. In addition to her work as a performing and recording artist\, Adrienne is also an educator teaching flute and saxophone as well as a masterclass presenter for institutes and foundations. \n

For this week’s performance\, violinist Regina Tolley will be playing romantic and popular songs from the 1920s to today. \n\nRegina Tolley is an accomplished acoustic and electric violinist based out of San Diego. \nShe first fell in love with the violin at age nine\, when she saw the local middle school orchestra perform. After years of orchestral and ensemble experiences throughout middle school and high school\, she decided to pursue her passion for music at Point Loma Nazarene University\, where she graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Music and a minor in Pre-Therapeutic Psychology. \nTolley has been a session and performing musician for over 15 year with artists like Rihanna and Louis XIV\, and has toured with bands locally\, throughout the United States\, and in Canada and Europe. \nWhen she’s not performing for weddings and other events\, you can find her teaching private and group lessons in her music studio\, tracking live strings for bands/artists or feature films\, and creating her own original songs.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the beautiful melodies and high-energy rhythms of samba and bossa nova — music made famous by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Sergio Mendes. This performance is inspired by the sunny beaches of Rio. Musicians Mark Danisovsky\, Jeff Pekarek\, Jim Lair\, Ray Conseur\, and Jean and Mike Stewart will perform an afternoon of toe-tapping fun for all ages.\n\n\nJean and Mike Stewart (guitar/vocals)\nJim Lair (keyboard and vocals) \nJean\, Mike and Jim formed the “Raggle Taggle Band” over 30 years ago\, providing themed entertainment at most of San Diego’s landmarks such as the San Diego Zoo\, San Diego Safari Park\, SeaWorld\, the Star of India and the grand openings for Seaport Village\, The Old Globe\, and Horton Plaza. The band performed jazz\, swing\, bossa nova\, Celtic\, traditional sea shanty and English Renaissance music. Jean and Mike also specialize in live music programs for young children\, and performed beloved weekly storytimes at Coronado Library for 10 years. \nMark Danisovszky (Accordionist and Piano) Mark is a masterful musician performing professionally for Italian\, French\, Jewish\, Oktoberfest\, Irish\, tango and jazz concerts and events as a soloist and in ensembles. \nJeff Pekarek (aka Basile) (Bass\, Guitar\, Cello and Bouzouki) Jeff has over 30 years of experience as a professional musician and entertainer in numerous musical genres. He is also a music arranger and recording producer\, an expert in international traditional folk music\, and has taught classical and electric guitar\, string bass and cello at The Bishop’s school in La Jolla. \nRay Conseur (Drums/Percussion) Ray is a drummer\, as well as a master of the cajon (rhythm box) and various exotic percussion instruments. He fine-tuned his craft playing traditional jazz at a number of well-known jazz festivals. He has performed in various groups ranging from Celtic\, flamenco\, Brazilian and steampunk\, and has traveled with numerous successful jazz\, rock and world-beat bands. \n

SUMMARY:Autumn Concert Series featuring Fred Benedetti
DESCRIPTION:Join the Library for our Autumn Concert Series on Fridays from September 2 to October 28. Each concert will begin at 1 pm in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. At this week’s performance\, guitarist Fred Benedetti will perform Spanish classical and flamenco pieces\, along with original and popular music\, tunes played on an instrument built in 1830\, and some ukulele music.\n\n\nBenedetti has been playing the guitar since he was nine years old. He loves playing all styles of music and switches among a ukulele\, baritone guitar\, and double-neck guitar. His biggest influences are his father\, The Beatles\, and Andres Segovia. Benedetti’s guitar has taken him throughout the United States\, England\, Germany\, the Czech Republic\, Canada\, Taiwan and Mexico. He has played locally as a solo act\, as part of a guitar duo\, and in a trio with his daughters. Benedetti has appeared onstage with the San Diego Symphony\, San Diego Opera\, Starlight Opera\, American Ballet Company\, Luciano Pavarotti\, and Dave Brubeck. He is an emeritus professor of music at Grossmont College where he is the head of the guitar studies program. Dignitaries he has performed for include the King and Queen of Malaysia\, Mikhail Gorbachev\, and Ravi Shankar. And he did get to play for his idol Andres Segovia\, in 1986. \n

Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance.\n\nThis week’s performance by classical pianist Eric Brelsford will feature pieces by Schumann\, Liszt\, Chopin\, and Rachmaninoff. \n\nEric Brelsford has appeared on concert stages since 10 years of age. His training in classical performance is extensive and spans the globe. Eric decided to depart from the concert scene after completing his undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Since then\, his personal life and musical/artistic journey (being one and the same) have flourished. Eric’s artistic philosophy is: as in music\, so in life. sometimes vice versa. \nEric’s arrival on the San Diego recital scene began a few years ago with a foray into various piano “meetup” groups using the ‘meetup’ app on his smartphone. \nFrom there\, he participated and received accolades for his three days of performance presentations at the Conrad in La Jolla during the San Diego Int’l Piano Competition for Amateurs (2019). Eric immediately withdrew from the recital scene again\, to consider deeply the next steps of his journey. He will share the results with his performance at the Coronado Public Library. \n

SUMMARY:Adam Wolff Perspective: a Jazz Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join the library for an afternoon of music by the Adam Wolff Perspective. Spend your Sunday afternoon listening to standards\, exciting Latin grooves\, original compositions\, and a couple of musical surprises. \nThis concert will take place in Library Park\, so bring a chair or blanket or you can use ours! \nIn case of inclement weather this concert will be moved into the Winn Room. \n\nAWP-THE ADAM WOLFF PERSPECTIVE \nAdam Wolff grew up in New York State\, travelling back and forth frequently from New York City to the upstate area. He lived in Manhattan during the 1980s\, and received a music degree from L.I.U. while performing and teaching in the New York area. His musical interests encompass jazz\, classical\, pop/rock and world music. He currently performs around the San Diego area with a variety of groups. He enjoys putting his own take on tunes that are not traditionally thought of as “jazz.” \nDave Millard is a unique instrumentalist\, with the ability to play fluently on almost any instrument he picks up. He currently counts flute\, guitar\, cello\, saxophone and percussion as his “main” instruments (!). Adam and Dave first met in 1978\, when Dave was playing the shakuhachi (a Japanese bamboo flute) in an impromptu concert on the beach. They have been playing together since then\, in many different group configurations. \nDave Marr is a stellar musician and bassist; he studied at the Berklee School of Music and played gigs for many years in New York\, Chicago\, Europe\, South America\, and the San Diego area. Charles McPherson\, the local saxophone legend\, included Dave in many performances. His particular love in music is that special era of jazz from the mid-’50s to the late ’60s\, when so many of our country’s jazz masters were at their peak. \nBarry Farrar comes from a musical family in San Diego- his father\, Barry Farrar Senior\, had a big band for many years in the area that included many outstanding players. Barry followed his father into jazz\, and has played with many of San Diego’s finest musicians\, as well as fronting his own groups. The earthy swinging grooves of Art Blakey are just one of his important inspirations. \nCollectively\, this quartet boasts well over 150 years of jazz performances. It would be hard to calculate how many gigs this represents! (Free CD to the person providing the best estimate.)

He has been heard in recital throughout the United States\, and has performed as a soloist at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego in masterclass with Lang Lang. Phillip has performed under the auspices of the San Diego Opera\, Bodhi Tree Concerts\, and Point Loma Opera Theatre. He spent several seasons as the assistant conductor for Point Loma Opera Theatre\, and directed their production of Donizetti’s Rita. He has served as a répétiteur for various operas\, operettas\, and musicals throughout the San Diego area. \n
