DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of classical piano\, featuring Ines Irawati. Experience her expressive depth and technical brilliance as she performs timeless pieces by composers like Chopin\, Beethoven\, and Liszt. \n \nAbout Ines \nIndonesian-born pianist Ines Irawati is in demand as a solo recitalist\, a collaborative pianist\, and a vocal coach. Her recent engagements include performances for TEDxSan Diego at Copley Symphony Hall\, the Art of Élan\, Musikamar chamber concerts\, concerts in Centro Cultural Tijuana\, and performances all over Southern California. She is a member of the Hidden Valley Virtuosi and a founding member of the acclaimed Aviara Trio\, a piano trio described as the “highest level of instrumental perfection\, intensity\, passion\, and expression.” She has collaborated with many other esteemed chamber musicians such as violinist Cindy Wu\, cellist Sophie Webber\, double-bassist Jeremy Kurtz-Harris\, Strings of the West\, and the Hyperion String Quartet. She founded MusiKamar\, a music series which brings exquisite chamber music performances into smaller and intimate spaces.  Ms. Irawati has served as the musical and artistic director of San Diego Opera Young Artist Training Program\, where she curated the company’s outreach concert series\, Opera Exposed!\, and its production of Little Red Riding Hood\, a children’s opera by Seymour Barab. She has been involved in multiple projects with Bodhi Tree Concerts\, including as the music director for the San Diego premiere of two chamber operas\, Aftermath by Nicolas Reveles and Autumn Valentine by Ricky Ian Gordon. \nMs. Irawati studied at Cleveland Institute of Music with Olga Radoslavjevich\, and at Yale University where she studied with Claude Frank\, Peter Frankl and Kikuei Ikeda of the Tokyo String Quartet. She lives in San Diego with her husband\, two children and their two dogs.

DESCRIPTION:Experience the season with an enchanting afternoon of classical guitar. From delicate melodies to vibrant rhythms\, this performance by Hugo Nogueira will blow you away. \n \nAbout Hugo Nogueira:  \nHugo Nogueira won the 2011 American Guitar Society competition in Los Angeles\, California. After attending three prestigious conservatories in Brazil (and studying with one of the most renowned Brazilian guitar pedagogues\, Henrique Pinto)\, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Composition in 2007 and a teaching credential in 2010. Hugo continued his studies earning his Master’s Degree in Guitar Performance at Azusa Pacific University. Additionally\, he has had masterclasses with world class guitarists such as Ana Vidovic\, Jason Vieaux\, Scott Tennant\, and Marc Teicholz. \nHugo has also participated at guitar festivals such as La Guitarra in San Luis Obispo\, Sierra Nevada Guitar Festival\, and New Mexico Guitar Festival. In 2012\, Hugo Nogueira performed and gave masterclasses at Cal State San Bernardino and University of Redlands. Awarded an assistantship in the fall of 2013\, Hugo began to work on his Doctorate in Classical Guitar Performance at UNLV with the internationally acclaimed concert guitarist\, Ricardo Cobo. \nIn 2014 and 2015\, Hugo was invited to be part of the guitar competition committee at the Clark County School District\, Las Vegas Academy of Arts\, and Junior festival in Las Vegas\, Nevada. \nIn the last few years\, Hugo has been performing in different states across the U.S such as California\, Wyoming\, Nevada\, New Mexico\, Florida\, Ohio\, Washington DC\, and Michigan. In May 2017\, Hugo Nogueira graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts. In 2018\, Dr. Nogueira was invited by the South Bay MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) to give a lecture-recital about the Spanish composer\, Francisco Tárrega. In following years\, Dr. Nogueira performed with in Panamá\, Portugal\, Brazil\, England\, USA and Norway. Dr. Nogueira is currently teaching classical guitar at Los Angeles Pierce College\, Oxnard College\, and Ventura College in Southern California.

DESCRIPTION:Spend a lovely Valentine’s Day afternoon listening to the beautiful music of the cello\, featuring Peter Ko and Robert Bui. \n\nAbout Peter Ko:  \nPraised as “particularly moving” (San Diego Story) and showing “extraordinary musicianship with unbroken focus … fierce and committed” (San Diego Union Tribune)\, Peter Ko is a San Diego based cellist\, collaborating with musical artists such as Steve Schick\, Joshua Rubin\, Mark Fewer\, and the Dover String Quartet. As a performer\, his training and projects have taken him across the USA\, Mexico\, Canada\, and Europe\, performing in festivals such as soundSCAPE\, SICPP\, Darmstädter Ferienkurse\, the Green Box Arts Festival\, and Neofonía Festival de Música Nueva Ensenada. Peter currently serves as principal cellist for the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus\, has been featured with Yarn/Wire\, Project [BLANK]\, and San Diego New Music. \nAbout Robert Bui:  \nRobbie Bui is a versatile cellist\, able to perform classical canon\, pop improvisation\, and contemporary avant-garde. He is grounded by an additional background in composition\, and holds degrees from New England Conservatory and UC San Diego. Specializing in new music interpretation\, he has been dedicated dozens of pieces as a soloist and chamber musician\, and is recognized in ensembles such as East Coast Contemporary Ensemble\, Palimpsest Ensemble\, and Alinéa. \nBeyond cello\, he’s a reliable pianist\, good violinist\, and not-so-good flutist. Beyond the stage\, he works as the Patron Services and Office Manager of La Jolla Symphony and Chorus\, and as a freelance portrait/event photographer. And beyond work\, he learns languages\, tailors clothes\, cuts hair\, and can make really great coffee.

Register below for email reminders. \nAbout the Musician:  \nRick Ross\, multi-talented pianist\, saxophonist and vocalist performs a vast array of music with vocal styles from jazz standards to Broadway\, pop and classic rock tunes. A native of Indianapolis\, Indiana\, Ross attended Cornell University in New York\, where he received a BA Degree in German Area Studies. He also earned a Master’s in Hotel Management from Cornell. Rick Ross first pursued his musical calling as a saxophonist performing in jazz bands and ensembles including the Indianapolis Symphonic Orchestra. He began to hone his performance skills while studying abroad in Germany\, playing sax in a Latin band and solo piano engagements in the university town of Göttingen. He returned to the United States to complete his college degree and soon became a regularly featured performer for events on Cornell campus. After receiving his Master’s Degree\, Rick worked for the InterContinental Hotel in San Diego. However\, it wasn’t long before he left his career in hotel operations and created his one man show on piano\, sax and vocals. A uniquely versatile musician\, Rick Ross adds a compelling ambiance to any special occasion.

They met playing for the Villa Musica Summer Orchestra in 2016 and regularly perform together in various ensembles\, including the Coronado Philharmonia\, City Ballet Orchestra\, and La Jolla Symphony. Stefan received his degree in harp performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and now serves as principal harpist with the City Ballet Orchestra while pursuing a graduate degree in Mathematics. Ciara received her degree in Mathematics from UCSD and in addition to her career as a software engineer\, serves as orchestra manager and librarian for both the City Ballet Orchestra and Villa Musica Summer Orchestra. \nDoors open at 12:45 p.m. Seating is first come\, first served. \n\nCiara Dabkowski is a violinist and software engineer from San Diego. In addition to performing with the Coronado Philharmonia\, La Jolla Symphony\, and other local ensembles\, she is the orchestra manager and librarian for both the City Ballet Orchestra and the Villa Musica Summer Orchestra. \nStefan Wendel began playing the harp at the age of six\, here in San Diego. Wolff’s music contains elements of excitement and hard swinging\, soulful\, creative musical expression. \nCaleb Furgatch has been playing the bass in the San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, and San Diego regions for many years. He also resided in Amsterdam for a time\, touring and playing with a variety of blues and jazz groups in Europe and the U.K. Equally adept at both electric and upright\, Furgatch has his own distinct style\, combining a strong groove feel with a great sense of adventure and humor. \nPercussionist Michael Evans has been a mainstay of San Diego’s music scene for decades. DESCRIPTION:Step into a world of rich\, sonorous harmony as the The Kundert Trio —a captivating ensemble of three violas— presents a concert celebrating the lyrical depth and warm resonance of the often-overlooked middle voice of the string family. \n \nAbout The Kundert Trio:  \nLynne Ramsey was First Assistant Principal Viola of the Cleveland Orchestra for 35 years and was the holder of the Charles and Janet Kimball Chair\, the first woman to hold that position. Prior to this appointment she was Principal Viola of the St. Paul chamber Orchestra and Principal viola of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also the 2014 recipient of the Maurice W. Riley Award from the American Viola Society. During her tenure with the SPCO she performed concerti and chamber music with Pinchas Zuckerman in Carnegie hall\, the Ravinia Festival as well as on tour in the United States. In 1986 she was the first foreigner to perform the Walton Viola Concerto with the Beijing Central Philharmonic in their new concert hall. She is in demand as a teacher\, having taught at the Oberlin conservatory\, Duquesne University and presently at the Cleveland Institute of Music. During the summers she teachers and performs regularly in summer festivals including Domaine Forget in Canada\, The Chautauqua Institute\, Encore for Strings\, The Interlochen Intensive Viola Week and the Karen Tuttle Workshop. She formerly taught at the Aspen Music Festival\, performed as Principal Viola in the Aspen Festival Orchestra and also performed frequently on their chamber music series. She has won prizes in international competitions including the Lionel Tertis Competition on the Isle of Man\, the Bryan Young Artist Competition as well as winning the Juilliard Concerto Competition. \nMs. Ramsey is a graduate of the Juilliard School with a BM and MM in Viola performance. Ms. Ramsey studied with Karen Tuttle and Ramon Scavelli. \nKirsten Docter is associate professor of viola and chamber music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. First prize wins at the Primrose International and American String Teachers Association Viola Competitions launched her on a career that includes a 23-year tenure with the Cavani Quartet\, concerts on major series and festivals\, and numerous appointments as a master class clinician and teacher. \nFestival appearances include performances at the Aspen Music Festival\, Banff Centre for the Arts\, Yale Summer School of Music and Art at Norfolk\, and the Seattle Chamber Music Society. She has collaborated with Itzhak Perlman\, Jaime Laredo\, Alisa Weilerstein\, Stephanie Blythe\, Nathan Gunn\, Alessio Bax\, and members of the Cleveland\, Juilliard\, Takács\, Emerson\, Borodin\, and Amadeus string quartets. Her work can be heard on the Azica\, Albany\, New World\, and Gasparo labels. \nDocter formerly served on the chamber music and viola faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Michigan. She has been a jury member of the Primrose International Viola\, Fischoff National Chamber Music\, and Sphinx competitions. In the summer she serves on the viola faculty of the Perlman Music Program. \nA true renaissance spirit\, Ellen Craig has built a varied career spanning music\, travel\, technology\, and hospitality. She began as a classical violist\, graduating from Oberlin College and Conservatory and earning her master’s degree from Rice University. Her performance career included years with the Toledo Symphony\, where she brought depth and elegance to the orchestral stage. With a natural gift for planning and an eye for detail\, she transitioned into luxury travel design\, crafting bespoke journeys across the world. With over 90 years of service in San Diego\, the band is one of the Navy’s and region’s finest and oldest continuing musical organizations. \nUnder the direction of MU2 Cameron Clements\, the Lieutenant New Orleans-style brass band is located onboard Naval Base San Diego\, and serves the military and civilian communities throughout the Southwestern United States.
