SUMMARY:History of the U.S. Submarine Force
DESCRIPTION:The Coronado Historical Association invites you to join us for a special lecture in conjunction with the latest exhibit A View from the Periscope. CHA welcomes Commander Jeff Tyler\, USN\, Ret. to speak about the history of the U.S. Naval Submarine Force. The presentation will include an overview of the Navy’s submarines from Ohio ballistic missile class submarines to the Virginia fast attack submarine class. The presentation will cover submarine specifications and systems\, as well as notable submarine incidents and disasters. \nReception at 5:30 pm\, followed by 6:00 pm lecture. Doors open at 5:20 pm. \nTickets can be purchased at coronadohistory.org\, by calling 619-435-7242\, or in the Museum Store. \nMember ($15 each) | Non-Member ($18 each) \nImportant Registration Information: Attendance is restricted to fully vaccinated persons with a booster shot. Capacity is limited and reservations are required. No walk-ins will be admitted. If you have any questions please email info@coronadohistory.org or call (619) 435-7242. \nAbout the Speaker: \nCommander Jeff Tyler entered the Navy in 1962. He is a graduate of the Naval Enlisted Science Education Program (NESEP) at the University of Washington. Over his 25+ year Naval career\, he served on the USS Lewis & Clark (SSBN 644)\, USS John Adams (SSBN 620)\, USS George Washington (SSBN 598)\, USS Corporal (SS 346)\, USS Grouper (AGSS 2l4)\, USS Florikan (ASR 9)\, and USS Point Loma (AGDS 2).  CDR Tyler has received several awards including the Navy Command at Sea Badge\, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star\, Navy Achievement Medal\, and the National Defense and Vietnam Service Medals.  CDR Tyler is a USN Mk 12 Dive System diver.  In retirement\, he has been active in the Rotary Club of Coronado\, the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission\, the Coronado Island Film Festival\, and the Coronado Community Foundation.  In George Galdorisi’s novel\, “The Coronado Conspiracy\,” “Jeff Tyler” is the National Security Advisor to the President of the United States. \n
