Inspired by Paulo Freire\, she co-founded Universidad Popular\, an innovative organization that cultivates leadership and empowers communities through education. \nHer talk will explore how education can nurture democracy and enable individuals to use their voices and power to shape their communities. He has written a total of 18 books\, including novels and works of non-fiction\, all published by mainstream publishers\, contributions to multiple other works of non-fiction\, and well over 400 articles in national media including newspapers\, professional journals\, popular magazines\, and conference proceedings. \nGeorge’s work has been recognized with numerous writing awards\, including the Navy League of the United States Alfred Thayer Mahan Award for Literary Achievement\, the Military Writer’s Society Award for fiction and non-fiction\, the Surface Navy Association Author of the Year\, Hook Magazine Contributor of the Year\, as well as a diverse array of literary awards from organizations such as the U.S. Naval Institute\, Naval Helicopter Association\, Navy League of Australia\, Naval Helicopter Historical Society\, and the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific.

On Thursday\, April 17\, 2025\, join us as Brian “Beef” Drechsler\, Captain\, USN (Retired) and Executive Director of NSMSD\, provides an in-depth “sitrep” on this extraordinary project. \nDrechsler will unveil the unique attributes of the NSMSD\, showcasing how the museum will bring the history of Naval Special Warfare to life. This includes immersive exhibits featuring educational displays\, docent-led storytelling\, and sensory interactive experiences. Visitors can also expect to experience the high-stakes world of SEAL operations through a cutting-edge virtual reality module\, from mission planning to extraction. The museum will also pay homage to the Frogmen\, from the Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs) of World War II to the modern-day SEALs and Special Warfare Combat Crewmen (SWCCs). \nFor over 60 years\, Coronado has been the heart of SEAL training and operational readiness. The beaches and facilities of Naval Amphibious Base Coronado have forged generations of elite warriors\, and the NSMSD will honor this profound connection\, solidifying Coronado’s place in the history of Naval Special Warfare. \nHowever\, the NSMSD is more than just a historical repository. It is committed to being a vital community partner\, supporting active-duty personnel\, veterans\, and their families.
