You will learn about Coronado and La Mesa’s architectural ties and about the Severin family’s role in mid-century residential design.   \nReception at 5:30 pm\, followed by 6:00 pm lecture. SUMMARY:Exploring the American Southwest: The Story of Cabeza de Vaca and Estebanico
DESCRIPTION:Little is known about the failed Panfilo de Narvaez expedition of 1527. This failed exploration is the story of European survivors Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca and a slave\, Esteban\, nee Mustafa al-Zamori\, from Azemmour\, Morocco. This presentation is based on La Relacion\, which chronicles a story of survival\, by Cabeza de Vaca. Here he relates their arduous journey of eight years traversing territories from Florida to Texas and how they endured as slaves and healers among various native groups. Ultimately\, in 1536 they are rescued by Spanish soldiers. This story concludes with Esteban’s journey north with Fray Marcos de Niza expedition in 1539 to find the Seven Cities of Cibola and his final encounter with the Zuni. \n

SUMMARY:San Diego Shakespeare Society Presents: Shakespeare Authorship Forum
DESCRIPTION:For hundreds of years people have questioned whether William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon actually wrote the plays and sonnets credited under his name\, in view of his limited education and experience. Mark Twain\, Walt Whitman\, Sigmund Freud\, and Malcom X\, to name a few\, have expressed such doubts. \nThe audience will watch a 30-minute documentary\, “Last Will & Testament\,” which provides an overview of the question and viewpoints both from the so-called “Orthodox” school and from the doubters. On Friday\, June 10th\, at Seaforth Boat Rentals\, Da Vinci will once again take to the water and unfurl a banner – this time\, in protest of violence at home: PROTECT OUR KIDS – BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS \nDa Vinci calls on Congress to “do the right thing and protect our children.” He adds\, “Our choice is clear: either we ‘protect’ military-style assault weapons\, or we protect our children. Enough is enough. Let’s honor the lives that have been lost with action.”

Long thought to be a San Diego fable\, Innis will shed light on this true story and will share photographs of the colorful\, bas relief art that adorned Connell’s cave.
