Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards\, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. \nDecember 21: My Tender and Affectionate Beast (1958\, 102 min) \nRich in imagery and atmosphere\, Emil Loteanu’s feature is an adapted version of Anton Chekov’s novel of innocence corrupted\, The Shooting Party. A naïve but ambitious peasant girl is willingly led astray by the bored gentry in this subtle critique of an aristocracy steeped in decadence\, lust\, deceit\, and corruption. This film is in Russian with English subtitles.
