Film expert Ralph DeLauro provides a brief introduction to each film and leads a discussion afterwards\, often including pointers about how lighting or camera angles contribute to a scene’s mood or propel the story. \nJuly 6: Ugestsu (Tales of Moonlight and Rain) (1953\, 94 minutes) \nKenji Mizoguchi crafts an eerie netherworld for his exquisite supernatural fable about the folly of men and the women who suffer. The delirious narrative concerns two villagers whose pursuit of fame and fortune leads them far astray from their loyal wives. (In Japanese w/ English subtitles)
