SUMMARY:Walking Tour of Historic Coronado
DESCRIPTION:One of the best ways to experience the history of Coronado is to go on a historic walking tour. This is the secret that Coronado locals know: it takes time to sense the past. When you slow down\, you have a chance to see\, hear\, and remember this place that Hollywood stars\, princes\, and presidents have enjoyed. Everywhere you look in this charming beach town\, you find history. And\, that history is easiest to see on foot – when you have a chance to linger in front of a tiny\, shingled house\, perhaps\, and meet the resident as he comes out into the yard to water his roses and tells you about the multiple generations who have lived in the home. Or\, when you seemingly stumble upon the magical house from which the Wizard of Oz was born. \nWe’re proud to host you on Coronado’s premier walking tour. Every tour purchase supports the Coronado Historical Association and its mission. Thank you for your support. \nEvery Sunday at 11 am & Thursday at 1 pm\nLocation: Coronado Historical Association\,\n1100 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118\nAdmission: Adults $20 | Children (12 & under) $5\nBUY TICKETS HERE\nTours are approximately 90 minutes and two miles at a comfortable pace. They are appropriate for young and old alike. Only certified service animals are allowed. This is an outdoor tour. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated persons with the booster shot\, and required for those who are not. \nOnline tour sales close at 10 am the day of the tour and are nonrefundable. SUMMARY:Spring Bike Rodeo
DESCRIPTION:Training to emphasize electric bikes.\nThe City is co-hosting three bicycle safety clinics\, called Bike Rodeos\, in April. The rodeos are for all students but there will be a special emphasis on those with e-bikes. Electric bikes have become very popular among Coronado youth who have been using them to get to school in growing numbers. E-bikes are fast due to their motors and there are special rules riders should know to ensure everyone’s safety. \nSimilar to bikes\, e-bikes are considered vehicles\, and users must obey all traffic rules including stopping at all stop signs and red traffic signals. E-bike riders should be proactive and check their speed\, brake earlier\, and remember that it’s still a bike. Crashes can happen on any bike\, but higher speeds are involved with e-bikes. It’s always best when you’re out riding around town to keep standard bike safety and courtesy in mind. \nThe City\, Coronado Unified School District\, San Diego Bicycle Coalition\, and Coronado MainStreet invite students and parents to attend one of three bike rodeos to learn about the rules of the road\, register bikes and enter raffle contests. Thanks Garage Buona Forchetta\, Holland’s Bicycles\, Gepetto’s and Blue Bridge Hospitality for co-sponsoring this important event. \nAll bikes\, e-bikes\, scooters\, and skateboards are welcome. Learn about the rules of the road and bike safety! All local students and parents are welcome. Win raffle prizes such as helmets\, bike locks\, and Coronado Currency. \nRegister your bicycle with online bike registry\, bikeindex.org. Bring your vehicle\, helmet\, and signed photo/video waiver. \nAnother rodeo on 4/19 at Silver Strand Elementary.

SUMMARY:Coronado Community READ Event: The World in 1938
DESCRIPTION:Join University of San Diego professor Dr. Ali Gheissari as he discusses the state of the world in 1938 and draws parallels to the world we are living in today. 1938 saw Nazi Germany building up for World War II with their invasion of Czechoslovakia. It saw the dramatization of Orson Wells’ “War of the World” unfold live on the radio- causing a panic as people believed it was a news broadcast\, not a play. Seabiscuit beat War Admiral in an upset that captivated the country. The United States was in the middle of a recession that occurred as the Great Depression muddled on. Vast dust storms swept the Midwest leading to migration to the coasts. 1938 was a time of uncertainty across the globe\, but also a time where news was able to travel faster and farther than before\, bringing people across the globe together quicker than ever. Gheissari will lead a discussion on how the world looked in 1938 and how it reflects across history.

SUMMARY:CIFF Student Classic Film Study Program Launches Second Session with Exciting Updates
DESCRIPTION:“Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” Saturday\, April 2nd from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Theater\, 820 Orange Avenue. \nAfter a successful start of the Student Classic Study Program\, the second session will kick-off following the spring break holiday\, on Saturday morning\, April 2nd. The Coronado Island Film Festival (CIFF) will present a slight change to the screening schedule replacing Meet Joe Doe with Frank Capra’s 1939 Columbia Pictures release\, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington featuring Jimmy Stewart\, Jean Arthur and a supporting cast including some of Capra’s favorite character actors. \nMr. Smith is the inspirational story of one simple man’s quest to fulfill his civic duty pitted against greedy\, moneyed political kingmakers\, back-room influence peddling and front-page character assassination. Eighty years after its release\, Mr. Smith was chosen by more than ninety percent of both Democrat and Republican TCM classic movie fans as their all-time favorite politically themed motion picture. \nMr. Smith proved a breakout role for Jimmy Stewart as a dramatic lead. A film critic for The Nation wrote a visionary 1939 review of Stewart’s tour de force portrayal of Jefferson Smith’s transformational journey: “Now he [Stewart] is mature and gives a difficult part\, with many nuances\, moments of tragicomic impact and he is able to do more than just play isolated scenes effectively. He shows the strength of the character through experience. In the end he is so forceful that his victory is thoroughly credible. One can only hope that after this success\, Mr. Stewart in Hollywood will remain as uncorrupted as Mr. Smith in Washington.” \nMr. Smith is the first film in the “second quarter” of CIFF’s Student Classic Film Program. On April 16th the series will screen the quintessential Noir classic\, Double Indemnity. On May 7th\, Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront\, winner of eight Oscars\, including Marlon Brando’s powerful performance as conflicted longshoreman and ex-prizefighter\, Terry Malloy. The program concludes May 21 st with William Wyler’s enchanting romantic comedy\, Roman Holiday\, featuring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn’s Oscar winning performance in her first Hollywood film. \nA new lower price will also take effect dropping from $15.00 to $10.00 per ticket\, which includes the film\, a post-discussion\, study guides and materials\, and a small popcorn and drink! \n“These films have had an incredible impact on the students who have joined us!” states Jon Mosier\, the Program Director “We want as many students to come to these Classics\, participate to enrich the discussion with their thoughts and insight!” \nThe new ticket price comes after feedback that it may be cost-prohibitive for some students. CIFF believes that film should be accessible to all\, scholarships and complimentary tickets are available for all screenings and remain confidential\, please reach out to Merridee Book to request. Educators are also encouraged to reach out for tickets on behalf of students or classes. To view the schedule and purchase Program Passes or individual event tickets visit:\nwww.coronadofilmfest.com. \nThe morning of the show only\, if seating capacity permits\, a special “cash only” seating section may be made available for parents or educators who would like to attend with their students. \n

Private Tours are available for groups. Learn more by clicking here.
