SUMMARY:Walking Tour of Historic Coronado
DESCRIPTION:One of the best ways to experience the history of Coronado is to go on a historic walking tour. This is the secret that Coronado locals know: it takes time to sense the past. When you slow down\, you have a chance to see\, hear\, and remember this place that Hollywood stars\, princes\, and presidents have enjoyed. Everywhere you look in this charming beach town\, you find history. And\, that history is easiest to see on foot – when you have a chance to linger in front of a tiny\, shingled house\, perhaps\, and meet the resident as he comes out into the yard to water his roses and tells you about the multiple generations who have lived in the home. Or\, when you seemingly stumble upon the magical house from which the Wizard of Oz was born. \nWe’re proud to host you on Coronado’s premier walking tour. Every tour purchase supports the Coronado Historical Association and its mission. Thank you for your support. \nEvery Sunday at 11 am & Thursday at 1 pm\nLocation: Coronado Historical Association\,\n1100 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118\nAdmission: Adults $20 | Children (12 & under) $5\nBUY TICKETS HERE\nTours are approximately 90 minutes and two miles at a comfortable pace. They are appropriate for young and old alike. Only certified service animals are allowed. This is an outdoor tour. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated persons with the booster shot\, and required for those who are not. \nOnline tour sales close at 10 am the day of the tour and are nonrefundable. SUMMARY:US Attack Aviation: From the Red Baron to TOPGUN
DESCRIPTION:Attack aviation is intense and dangerous. It necessitates the direct engagement of ground targets at low altitude. Attack aircraft are usually fighters or fighter-sized aircraft\, with one or two engines\, and one or two crew. For this event\, R. G. Head (Brig. Gen.\, Ret.) will present his new book US Attack Aviation: Air Force and Navy Light Attack: 1916 to the Present. This is a story about flying. It is told by naval aviators\, Air Force fighter pilots\, and the men who built the airplanes the pilots flew. \nAuthor R. G. Head (Brig. Gen.\, Ret.) has extensive experience in combat (325 missions\, DFC\, Silver Star) and an in-depth understanding of doctrine (taught future pilots at the Air Force Academy) and gained first-person exposure to the policy and engineering aspects of the aircraft procurement process while serving at the Pentagon and later as a private consultant working in collaboration with the US Navy. His work provides an overview history of American attack aviation from its inception to present\, including both the US Navy and Air Force. The pillars of the narrative are several case studies that characterize the evolution of technology and tactics over time: SBD Dauntless\, AD Skyraider\, A-4 Skyhawk\, A-7 Corsair II\, A-10 Thunderbolt II\, and F/A-18 Hornet. Each of the cases contains first-person accounts that include a description of the aircraft’s origin\, competitive procurement\, major attack features\, and combat employment. Head (Brig.
SUMMARY:Citizen Science: Solstice Sea Star Search
DESCRIPTION:Take part in a citizen science opportunity to search for sea stars! The California Academy of Sciences and the Nature Conservancy are requesting your help finding and reporting sea stars along the California coast during December 20-23. Join our environmental librarian as we search for sea stars in the tide pools and upload our observations into iNaturalist to share our data with researchers. Library staff can assist you with setting up and using iNaturalist throughout the event. \nWhere? We will be at the tidepools in the rocks behind/in front of the Hotel del Coronado. \nWhat were looking for? Sea stars\, also known as starfish or bat stars. Any sea star observations are important for researchers\, but they are particularly looking for observations of Sunflower Stars (Pycnopodia helianthoides). If you find any of these species\, please additionally email your iNaturalist sighting to solsticeseastarsearch@gmail.com. \nWhy the solstice? The best time to observe tide pools is during low tide. The winter and summer solstices typically coincide with some of the lowest tides in the year\, which can make them a great time for tide pooling! \nHow do we report observations? We will be using iNaturalist\, a free citizen science app used to connect people to nature and advance biodiversity science and conservation. Library staff can assist you with setting up and using iNaturalist throughout the event. Please bring your smart device. \nTeen volunteers can get community service credit for participating in this event. Contact tdavies@coronado.ca.us for verification.

SUMMARY:Back at the Table: Bringing Families to the Dinner Table
DESCRIPTION:Struggling to bring everyone to the dinner table? Looking to refresh your dinnertime routine? Nutritionist Andrea Geraldi will offer tips and ideas to simplify the evening meal at 6:30 pm on Thursday\, January 19 in the Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library. \nGeraldi advocates that it isn’t what you put on the table\, but being at the table that matters\, and that it will all come together if you prioritize meal time. Participants will leave this program with a meal plan for the week and the confidence that this plan and a few helpful tips will help ease their weekly mealtime stress \n\nGeraldi has a degree in Dietetics and Nutritional Science from the University of Vermont and a Masters in Public Health with a focus in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Hawai’i. She and her husband have three children and live in Coronado. She’s traveled the world from Teman Negara\, Malaysia to the Tatras Mountains in Slovakia. Her travels and life as a mom have taught her that when it comes to family mealtime and healthy eating habits\, what works for some families does not work for others. And her science background has proved pointless when the tantrum is about a speck of green in a meatball. She is currently working on a cookbook through Military Special Operations Family Collaborative and The Family Dinner Project. Her business\, Back at the Table\, helps families unplug\, laugh and reconnect at the table\, where she and her family are happiest (or so she tells everyone). \nPlease join Geraldi in learning to Plan as the first of her five-part series\, PUNCH. Andrea will equip you with some tools to simplify the meal time and help you get the family Back at the Table. After all\, you can’t plan life\, but you can plan dinner.
