SUMMARY:An Evening with Clare Leslie Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Coronado Public Library\, in partnership with Warwick’s\, is proud to host bestselling author Clare Leslie Hall. She’ll discuss her new novel Broken Country — her U.S. debut and a Reese’s Book Club pick — in conversation with Jason Blitman. A celebrated journalist and novelist\, her latest work is a sweeping love story with the pace and twists of a thriller full of simmering passion\, impossible choices\, and explosive consequences that toggles between the past and present to explore the far-reaching legacy of first love. \nA book-signing will follow. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come\, first-served\, subject to availability. Limited preferred seating is available with purchase of Broken Country through Warwick’s bookstore. Please visit https://www.warwicks.com/clare-leslie-hall-2025-reserved-seat or call the store at 858-454-0347 for more information. \n\nAbout Broken Country \nBeth and her gentle\, kind husband Frank are happily married\, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep\, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe\, the man Beth loved as a teenager — the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo\, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son\, who died in a tragic accident. \nAs Beth is pulled back into Gabriel’s life\, tensions around the village rise and dangerous secrets and jealousies from the past resurface\, this time with deadly consequences. Beth is forced to make a choice between the woman she once was\, and the woman she has become. \nAbout Clare Leslie Hall \nClare Leslie Hall is a novelist and journalist. She published two domestic noir novels Him and Mine under the name Clare Empson and has turned to book group fiction with her third novel Broken Country. \nBroken Country is set to be published in over 30 territories and\, since UK and US publication\, is a Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller. It was also Reese’s Book Club Pick and Fearne Cotton’s The Happy Place Book Club pick for March 2025. It has been optioned by 3000 pictures with Hello Sunshine producing. \nAbout Jason Bittman \nJason Blitman is an arts professional who currently hosts and produces the podcast Gays Reading. Recent guests include Ann Patchett\, Dylan Mulvaney\, Jonathan Adler\, Kaveh Akbar\, Rumaan Alam\, Dolly Alderton\, Margaret Cho\, Roxane Gay\, TJ Klune\, Nnedi Okorafor\, Torrey Peters\, Elif Shafak\, and many more. SUMMARY:AI in Higher Education: Navigating Our Future with Critical\, Ethical\, and Human-Centered AI Literacy
DESCRIPTION:In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more prominent in higher education\, it’s essential to develop AI literacy\, which is the ability to understand\, use\, monitor\, and critically reflect on AI applications. This skill isn’t just a technical one; it’s a vital extension of the critical thinking we already teach\, like evaluating information and understanding authority. \nThis presentation will take a compassionate and human-centered approach\, moving past “AI shaming” to encourage thoughtful engagement with these new tools. The discussion will cover the critical ethical and environmental issues tied to AI\, including bias and inequality\, social justice\, concerns about privacy and data use\, and touch on the environmental impact of AI technologies. \nThe session will also present a framework for how higher ed can incorporate these competencies into curricula\, showing how librarians and educators are well-equipped to guide these conversations. By linking AI literacy to established information literacy principles\, we help our campus communities navigate the intricate world of AI ethically\, responsibly\, and effectively. \nAbout the Speakers:  \nLucy Campbell (MLIS) is a Senior Assistant Librarian at SDSU\, serving as Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian since 2023. With over 15 years experience as an academic librarian\, she has a broad research portfolio that includes work in UX\, discovery systems\, digital resource management\, and qualitative methods including metadata practices\, and student research engagement. \nKeven Jeffery (MLIS) is a Librarian at SDSU\, serving as Digital Technologies Librarian since 2007. Keven brings technical and infrastructure capability\, particularly in programming\, digital systems\, API integrations\, and technological innovation. His responsibilities include investigating and implementing emerging digital technologies and applications for the university library. \nSarah Tribelhorn (MS\, MMLIS)\, is a Senior Assistant Librarian at SDSU\, serving as the Sciences and Sustainability Librarian since 2022. Sarah has been instrumental in leading sustainability initiatives in the University Library\, and increased campus and community engagement in sustainability projects\, AI literacy\, and citizen science programming

SUMMARY:CoSA DigArts Horror Nights: Whispers in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:It screens and causes screams at the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) Digital Arts Conservatory’s Horror Nights taking place on Tuesday\, October 28 and Thursday\, October 30. For two chilling and thrilling nights\, students will showcase their A+ work focused on the theme: Creepy Campfire stories – ranging from ghost stories to monster and stalker lore\, it’s all happening at the Coronado High School Black Box Theatre\, 650 D Avenue from 6 to 7:30 pm each night. \nTo prepare for the project\, students chose a campfire story to represent their form of digital art that includes their unconventional storytelling and suspenseful audience appeal. Students explored how campfire stories can be brought to life through creativity and horror. \n“Students are excited to test their skills in a horror genre\,” said Anna Woerman\, CoSA DigArts Conservatory Director and Teacher. “They love horror and retelling the genre in their own way. Students get to be creative within the theme and they like to push the limits\, within a PG-13 appropriateness\,” added Woerman. \nHorror Nights\, now in its 16th year\, is a much-loved DigArts tradition. Since horror night occurs in October\, students are tasked with beginning their projects as soon as they start school. They begin with sketches and brainstorming\, then they storyboard\, film\, animate\, or begin to design in Illustrator or Photoshop in anticipation of their show October 28 and 30. \nThe event is recommended for middle school aged children or older. Concessions will also be available for sale. \nTickets are $10 for adults\, $5 for students\, staff\, seniors\, and military and are on sale now at cosasandiego.com or can be purchased prior to each performance.
