Continuing its long-standing San Diego tradition\, the 54th annual parade promises to dazzle and entertain bayfront crowds during two evenings in 2024: December 8 and December 15. Participants in this year’s holiday boat parade will decorate their boats to fit this year’s theme: Peace on Earth. \nThe parade of lights brings more than 100\,000 San Diego residents and visitors to the shores of San Diego Bay each year. The procession of approximately 80 lavishly decorated boats has become one of the most iconic events in the region. There is no cost to view the parade. \nSan Diego Bay Parade of Lights. We are appreciative of David and Jenni Spatafore’s ongoing support through Blue Bridge Hospitality\, allowing us to keep expenses to a minimum and maximize the return from our all-volunteer organization\,” said Kathy Fink\, CWC Board President. \nThe suggested donation is $8 per bag or box.

The event will be held on Sunday\, February 2\, from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Coronado Yacht Club. Tickets are $65 per person and include a seat for Bunco\, appetizers\, a drink ticket\, and an opportunity drawing ticket. \nThere are prizes for Bunco winners\, raffle prizes\, and silent auction items. The Storytelling Institute\, a free seven-week course presented by the Storytellers of San Diego\, is open to everyone who would like to hone their skills in this ancient art form. SUMMARY:Delta Beach Clean Up With Emerald Keepers
DESCRIPTION:Join Emerald Keepers on Saturday\, February 8 from 10 am to 12 noon to support the Navy’s cleanup of Delta Beach. \nDelta Beach\, on the bay side of Coronado’s Naval Amphibious Base\, is located 2.7 miles south of the Hotel Del. Look for the large Emerald Keepers sign by a gate in the fence. Volunteers can park at the Fiddler’s Cove parking lot at the south end of Delta Beach\, or parking will also be available on the sand inside the gated entrance to Delta Beach. \nRecruit your friends and neighbors as there is a large beach area to clean up. Registration is not required. Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and\, a picker and bucket if you have them. Emerald Keepers will have some gloves\, buckets\, and pickers available for volunteers. \nOn the bay side of Coronado’s Naval Amphibious Base\, Delta Beach is not usually open to the public or Navy activity as it is was recently designated a critical habitat for the Least Tern and Snowy Plover birds. As a result\, the large amount of trash that washes ashore is not accessible for most beach cleanups and accumulates throughout the year.

DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again when the Coronado Junior Optimist Clubs participate in the nationwide campaign called Souper Bowl of Caring. \nWhile many people will be enjoying the big game with lots of things to eat\, we forget that there are many food insecure people in our own city.  Our junior high and high school clubs will be walking sections of Coronado on February 9 collecting nonperishable food items to aid neighbors in need. Collection boxes are currently in place at our partners – one location is at Sweat Circuit Coronado\, 1007 Isabella Ave.\, and the other is at Starbucks Coffee at 960 Orange Ave. \nAll donations will once again go to the food locker at Coronado Baptist Church where Pastor John will see that it goes to those who it will most help. \nFor questions or to schedule an early pick up\, call or text Club Advisor Erin @ 619-675-1323. DESCRIPTION:This course will feature poems by winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry since 1997. First presented in 1922\, the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry is given for a distinguished volume of original verse by an American author\, published during the preceding calendar year. All class members are encouraged to contribute their ideas and perceptions of the poems\, enriching the discussions for everyone in attendances. Attend one class or the entire series. \n\nChuck Kamar received his Bachelor’s from Boston State and his Master’s from Boston University. He taught for 34 years in the Newton Public Schools\, the last 20 of which at Newton North High School. In 1998 he won the Paul E. Elicker Award for Excellence in Teaching.
